Disclaimer Update;
The gatecrasher at the end of the last chapter belongs of course to Marvel, but the gate crasher in this chapter is an original character and isn't related to any other characters with the same powers and/or the same backstory."Steve wait!" I rushed towards him with the warning but it was too late. Bucky was stood on the porch with the barrel of a six shot colt in Steve's face.
"Bucky, what are you doing?" Steve looked hurt for a second but as always masked it so quickly I doubted I even saw it.
"I want answers." He said his voice rough and demanding but desperate.
"I'll help you but I need you to give me the gun."
"We both know that's not going to happen while she's here. I saw her bring a building down with you inside, how are you still alive?" He motioned to me as I stood in the middle of the hall.
"Holster it," Steve said angling for a compromise, "and I'll tell you." He spoke as he was forced back into the kitchen at gunpoint.
"No, not until you tell me what I want to know." He paused drawing a shaky breath, "who am I?"
"Sargent James Barnes of the 107th Infantry Regiment," Steve said in military manner before adding slowly "and my best friend.""No! You are my ENEMY!" he spat in return stumbling backwards into the counter to get away from him, his shooting arm shaking. As calm as anything Steve replied,
"Then why come to me for answers?"
"You were the only one who told me the truth, from what I remember at least." He stated holding both hands to his head in pain, before looking up again, "Tell her to leave. I don't trust her." Steve started to speak but a cut across him.
"Don't even think about it Steve." I paused, thinking for a moment and turned to address the Sargent,
"Look, you don't know me but I'm a telepath with the ability to control the elements. Do you know what that means?" I asked sincerely, warning him of my power and attempting to gain his trust in one swoop. He looked to Steve who nodded in confirmation.
"You're powerful?" He said quite light-heartedly for someone with a hostage and I glimpsed the person Steve had known.
"Yes, but it means I can help. If, you want me to." I stated, they then both looked confused. "Let me look into your mind, I can clear your memories." That, apparently was the wrong thing to say causing him to train the gun on me,
"I've had people 'look' in my head before, that's the problem." He removed the safety and was about to press the trigger when Steve spoke up stepping in front of me, immediately the safety was reapplied to the Sargent's fire arm.
"Bucky, this isn't you. You had compassion. I'm with you to the end of the line, but if you do this I won't be, can't be. I trust her that should be enough."
"You're right." He shakily placed the gun on the table. Steve meanwhile turned back to the bacon,
"Why don't we have some breakfast?"
"Sure." I took a seat the cold wood of the chair against the back of my thighs reminding me of my outfit choice, causing me to self-consciously do up the buttons of Steve's shirt. I reached a hand across the table to where the Sargent was sitting,
