A love story Inspired by the show Yellowstone. After being away for years May Dutton, a paramedic, meets Ryan, a cowboy that works on her family's ranch.
"Can you just take me home?" May asked. "Yeah, well your horse ran away so..." he said gesturing towards his horse. "Great" she said in a sarcastic tone. Ryan gets on his horse then offers his hand to help May onto the horse.
Ryan and May were riding up to the barn when Rip walked out angrily, "what the fuck happened? Your horse came back an hour ago, I sent Colby and Lloyd out looking for you two" "Sorry I lost my horse, we got back as soon as possible" Rip ignores what May just said, walks up to Ryan and grabs him by the shirt, "what the fuck did you do!" "I didn't do anything!" Ryan said frightened "What the fuck Rip? He didn't do anything. It was just an accident" Rip let's Ryan go, "go put your horse away I need to talk to May alone" Ryan looks at May and she nods to say it's okay. "You mind telling me what that was about?" "May you can't be fooling around with the guys in the bunkhouse, it'll get messy" "I'm not fooling around with anybody! I don't even know the other guys. What the fuck is wrong with you?" "It's my job to keep everyone in line and you safe. Today proved that I can't trust you to be alone with these guys" "I'm fine Rip, nothing happened" "Well I can't be sitting here all day worrying if you're dead in a Field somewhere so from now on why don't you stay up by the house and leave us alone down here" "You've got to be kidding me" May says in disbelief. "I'm not, if your dad found out about this he'd have Ryan's head, I'm not going to let history repeat itself" May went from being hurt to being angry, "fuck you!" She yelled before storming away. Rip felt terrible for what he said but he didn't regret it, he knew he needed to look out for May, even if he hurt her in the process.

May walks into Lee's cabin still hurt and angry. For a moment she thought she could escape the past but what happened with Ryan and Rip showed her that no matter what being back home wasn't going to be good for her. After crying and pacing back and forth for what felt like hours she grabbed her bag and her keys, she stopped herself as she grabbed the door knob. "I can't keep running" she said to herself as she rested her forehead on the door. She dropped her bags and walked toward the kitchen where she saw a bottle of whiskey on the counter. She stopped to stare at it and in a split second she made a decision that could change everything. May grabbed the bottle, sat down at the table and set the bottle right in front of her. Suddenly her breathing was heavy, she just sat and stared at it with both hands flat on the table. "This feeling is temporary, these emotions are temporary" she repeated to herself. She wanted to cave, drinking it would be so much easier, and even if it was temporary she would feel so much better. The lee walks in and sees May. He saw the bottle and froze, May didn't move a muscle. "May..." he says in a cautious manner, he starts walk slowly towards the kitchen, "May?" Half way to the table she looks up at lee with tears in her eyes, "I didn't drink any" lee breathes a sigh of relief and walks over to her. "Okay" he says as he kneels down next to May, "May what happened?" "Thought this would be easy. I thought I'd changed and I'd come back and we'd be this "big happy family" but it's not like that and we will never be like that. I don't think I can do this, I don't think I can be here." Lee stands to sit on the chair next to her and grabs her hands. "May you have changed, I mean look at you, you are so strong. We may not be a big happy family but we are a family, and we will be here for you every step of the way. Look May, I'm not going to lie to you being here is hard, and it's always going be hard. But I'm here okay?" May pulls lee in for a hug, "I'm not going anywhere" he reassured her. "Thank you" she says as she wipes away her tears. "I'm sorry, I forgot, I should have thrown this out last night" "No this is your house, you're allowed to have whatever you want in here" "It's your house too. What do you say we clear out my office and make it a bedroom for you. What the hell do I need an office for anyway?" lee laughed. "Are you sure?" "Yeah of course" "Cool cause that couch was really shitty" they both laugh. "Yeah I told you. How about I take the couch tonight and you take my bed, you've had a rough day" "No, lee I'm not going to take your bed" "Yeah you are. I mean it, you need to sleep, now go" May reluctantly gets up, gives lee a kiss on the cheek and heads to bed. She almost immediately fell asleep the moment she laid down, the day exhausted her. While May was sleeping lee threw out every bottle of alcohol he had, hid any medication he had, and started cleaning out his office. He just wanted May to feel comfortable, like it was her home too. While cleaning his office he found an old family picture from when they were kids, Lee couldn't believe how fast they grew up. Being the oldest sibling he felt like he practically raised them himself. Before he knew it, it was midnight and he had to get to bed for work in the morning, he finished up and fell asleep on the couch.
