"Hey!" Ryan yelled, catching up to May. "So you weren't kidding about all the family drama huh?"
"I definitely wasn't" May chuckles. "Can I get you a drink?"
"A drink sounds pretty good right now. But no thank you, I don't drink. A corn dog sounds pretty good though" May smiles. "One corn dog, got it." Ryan leaves to get the food. May stands off to the side watching all the riders getting ready when she hears a familiar voice. "Well I'll be damned, I didn't think I'd ever see you around her again" May turns around surprised. "Kayce?" She smiles going in for a hug, "what the hell are you doing here?"
"I could say the same for you" Kayce chuckles, "oh this is my wife Monica, Mon this is my sister, May"
"It's really nice to meet you"
"Wow...Wife?" May says surprised. "Yeah, a lot happened after you left, you have a nephew by the way. His name is Tate, I'd love for you to meet him" May was speechless, "Wow...uh congratulations, yeah I'd love to meet him"
"Hey..." Ryan interrupts holding two corn dogs, one in each hand. "Hey Ryan"
"Hi Kayce, it's good to see you"
"You too...are you guys here together?" Kayce asked confused. "No!" They both said in unison, "no, not here together, like that."  May chuckled, "We're here with lee, Jamie, and...Dad"
"Oh"
"Yeah" May gives an awkward smile. It was silent for a moment, "but he actually just texted me that they sat on the bleachers on the left so"
"That's great! You know, we should actually go get our seats too"
"The right side sounds great" Monica says playfully. May and Kayce laugh, "I hope I hear from you soon" Kayce says walking away, "of course"

May and Ryan start heading towards the bleachers, "oh my god that was so awkward I wanted to shoot myself" Ryan said handing May her corn dog. "I didn't know you knew my brother"
"Yeah I was here for a little bit before he left"
"What do you know about that?"
"May, it's really none of my business. You're going to have to ask for yourself"
"Okay, sorry."

After about an hour of watching the rodeo, May was pretty bored, she was never into the whole rodeo scene, it was mostly Middle Aged men trying to relive the past, tourist, or girls trying to get a cowboy to go home with. It wasn't long before Ryan noticed May's boredom, he tapped her on the arm and made a gesture to follow him with his head. May waited a second for him to leave and she turned to look at her dad who was busy talking to Jaime, "I'm going to the bathroom", John nodded his head and continued his conversation. As May made her way down she saw Ryan walking under the bleachers, she followed him.
"You're not going to murder me down here are you"
"No way, you'd probably take me down before I could even try" Ryan laughed. "So why'd you bring me down here?"
"You looked bored"
"So, what? Are you going to sing for me" May teased,
Ryan smiled looking at the ground, "I should have never told you that"
"No I'm kidding, I'm glad you told me. I think it's cool, most guys I meet could really use a hobby. You play guitar?"
"Yeah my grandpa taught me when I was young and I've pretty much been making music ever since"
"So is that the dream? Making music, being some big country music star"
"Nah I think my dreams are much simpler than that"
"Really?"
"Yeah I think once you start doing it for a living, it's not about the music anymore it's about making money. Music is kind of my escape from all that, it wouldn't be fun anymore with all of that pressure"
"So what is it then?"
"What is what?"
"The dream. What do you want in life?" Ryan smiles at her. "Come on, I barely know you. Tell me"
"Fine, I'll tell you but it ain't nothing special"
"I don't care" May chuckles.
"It's silly but I guess I imagine myself settling down, having a few kids, a dog maybe. I'd have a ranch, nothing crazy like the Yellowstone, something I could work myself and someday pass down to my kids. The simple life." They both sit in silence for a moment. "but I guess a dream is all it is, because you and I both know that our lives are far from simple" he sighed. "Yeah, I know. But that sounds really nice"
"You think so?"
"Yeah" May smiles. "So what about you?"
"What?"
"What's your dream?"
"I don't have dreams" she chuckled.
"Sure you do, everyone has dreams"
"Well I don't"
"So why a paramedic then?" He asked.
"We live in the middle of nowhere"
"So?"
"My mother got badly injured when I was young, it was just me, her, and my brother. She died because there was no way to save her. I couldn't save her. So I told myself that if I was going to be anything, I would be something that would make sure something like that didn't happen again."
"Wow, I'm so sorry" Ryan sympathized. "Don't be, it was a long time ago, and she was kind of a bitch to me most of the time. But you know, she's still my mother."
They're both quiet for a moment, "we should probably get back before my dad gets suspicious" May says interrupting the silence. She starts to walk away before Ryan stops her, "wait! Just let me take you out on one date, just one, I promise it'll be worth your while" May smiles, "Hmmm, I'll have to think about it" she says playfully. "Come on, really? You're going to make me wait for an answer?"
"Yes. It'll give me a reason to see you again tomorrow" May smiles and walks out from under the bleachers, Ryan just stood there for a minute smiling, "you coming or are you just going to stand there all night" she said looking back.

The rodeo ended, Lee got first place as usual, John and Ryan waited in the truck while May waited for Lee to get his prize money. "Hey, you did amazing out there" Lee gave May a doubtful look, "May I'm not blind, I saw that you weren't there"
"Yeah, I went to the bathroom and I ended up having to watch from the sidelines" May lied. "Oh so under the bleachers with Ryan is "the sidelines" now?" Mays face went red, "relax, I don't care, it's none of my business but you need to be more careful about it, especially when dad is around"
"I know...sorry I didn't watch you ride" she said giving a fake sad face. "It's fine, I know you hate this stuff anyways" Lee chuckles.
