Chapter 9

We were sitting in camp talking when the first arrow flew past us. I jumped up and threw a spell of immunity around my party. The arrows bounced off us, which gave Zevvran, and Levon time to get to the attackers. Amarie shot sets of arrows at the offenders, twos and threes, and single arrows flew away from her in a blur. I shot a flurry of spells at the attackers, grabbing them with trees, and lighting them on fire. When Zevvran staggered under a particularly heavy blow I panicked a little and took the life force of a strong tree and gave it to him. He gasped and looked at me. I nodded and he smiled, striking the final blow on the man that had hit him. Levon seemed to be enjoying himself

“Take that! And that! How do you like me now?”

“I got him!” Amarie shouted laughing

“Burn” I whispered to the small man that was charging at me with his great sword. His face twisted in agony and then he was on the ground writhing in pain. Zevvran was attacking in a flurry of blows that even the sharpest eyes couldn’t catch. He looked like he was dancing, as he spun and circled the five men that surrounded him. I put a circle of fire around the group. They were trapped now, and Zevvran wouldn’t have a problem with them. Once the last of them fell, we stopped to catch our breath. I looked over our camp. It was covered in gore, dead bodies thrown everywhere

“We need a new camp” I told them. They nodded and we packed up camp and left. This would be a night where no one would get any rest.

“Who do you think they were?” Levon asked me the next day.

“They were probably assassins for the Guardians” he frowned

“Can’t do their own dirty work” he mumbled I laughed

“Let’s just keep going” I said to him. We were on our way to the faery folk in the Elderwood forest.

“Anyone want to hear a story for the trip?” Zevvran asked us. We murmured in excitement. When Zevvran told a story time flew.

“Good. I’ll tell you how the Faery folk marry, it’s a beautiful story;

Thousands of years ago, when the land was bare of trees and plants, the first faery was born. Her name was Azanai, or life oak in this tongue. She was born in the center of the Elderwood forest, and the world around her sprung to life at her touch, and she found great joy in it.

“But she was just one faery, and her life could only spread so far, she longed for another to share this world with.

“Tired of being alone Azanai used powerful magic to create a man out of the life she had in the world. She created him, and named him Arrae, man beast. They grew the world together and knew great love. But soon Arrae grew tired of having a love that he could not name. One day he asked his love if he would join her in the water of spirits to take vows of love. Azanai agreed and they went into the water together and used a great magic to fashion them a stone that would always keep them together, even when they were miles apart. In these stones they put a link to their souls and gave it to their true loves, so that they would never be separated”

“That’s so beautiful” Amarie said, she fanned her face.

“Wow” was all Levon said. We all knew he was a sucker for romance. Zevvran was watching me a mischievous glint in his eyes. I smiled

“I can’t wait” I told him he chuckled and said.

“You might have to for a few more days my love” I glared at him

“You know what I mean” he chuckled.

“Can we set up camp here? Levon asked us, looking at a spot that was perfect for camp
