Chapter 11
“Where do we go now?” Amarie asked me, her blue eyes squinting in the blinding sunlight. I shrugged my shoulders
“Anywhere you want to go?”
“Unless you feel the need to go to the Isle of Wolves, not really”
“The Isle of Wolves? As in werewolves? Why?” she blushed,
“I guess it is time we talked then? How do I begin? Let me see here…” she said, pulling at her hair
“My mother was actually a maven, you know? So I would directly inherit the maven gene, making my power inevitable. But my dad? Well… I guess they would call me a mixed breed, you see, my dad he was a… Werewolf. But it’s not what you think!” she added quickly “some werewolves still have their original emotions, a soul. My mom and dad- well they fell in love and mom had me. But when the other wolves found out they drove mom away from dad, and I never got to meet him, but I heard recently that my dad was still alive, and well… I was just thinking…” she blushed “it’s stupid, I know but…”
“No! It’s not stupid Amarie! I understand completely” I said, she looked at me through her now shoulder length curls
“Really?”
“Yes, do you know where the Isle of Werewolves is?” she laughed
“Its two days ride south from here, hidden deep into the valley is a lake; Lake Xenala, and in the center is an island, that is where the wolves will be”
“We can go there, if you want to” I said
“Please? That would be wonderful”
“Absolutely” I told her, she smiled
“We need to turn here” Levon told us “although I don’t know why”
“Thanks Levon” I said, he nodded and we silently turned our horses and headed towards the Isle of the Werewolves.
“So Amarie, I have a question for you” I said
“Yes? What is it?”
“Well your part werewolf right? So does that mean you can…?”
“I can, but I won’t. It’s a bit of a curse you see. If I ever lose control and change into a wolf, I will lose the control over my changing and turn into a wolf in the full moon, like the rest of my kind”
“I see”
“Yes, its maven or wolf, and I’ve made my decision.”
“Well, I’m glad to have you with me Amarie”
“Thank you Layana, I owe you so much”
“You’ll make up for it in the battles to come”
“Yes, I suppose I will” I smiled, and we rode on for several hours. The sun set earlier than I expected it to and we had to set up camp. It was all really quiet; everyone was running out of things to say. We sat, and watched the flames, I wished there was something we could talk about. Zevvran chewed on a piece of grass silently. He glanced at me and said
“Perhaps you could sing for us?” I smiled
“Of course, I’ll sing you a song of freedom;
Eagle flies, and soars. Eagle rules the sky
Eagle fights and wins. Eagle never dies.
Eagle is our guardian, child no need to fear,
