Chapter 13

                         Levon’s eyes fluttered open slightly

“Amarie?” he whispered in a choked voice. Amarie shrieked in delight and said

“Levon! I thought- we thought-”

“It takes more than death to make me go away” he said in the same choked voice. I handed him my water and he drank. Once he had his fill he handed it back to me and looked at Amarie. He touched his lips with one finger.

“If I had known dying was all I needed to do to get you to kiss me I would have done it sooner” Amarie laughed but it sounded more like she was choking. She leaned over and kissed him passionately. When they were done kissing Levon said

“I love you”

“I love you too” Amarie said. And then she slapped him as hard as she could across his face.

              He clutched his face

“Ow! What was that for?”

“Don’t you ever do that to me again!” she said and then she turned on her heel and stomped over to her horse. Zevvran chuckled

“Women” he said. Levon took his hand away from his cheek and revealed a bright red hand mark. I giggled slightly and said

“Unless you want to be branded as well, I would watch what you say about women” Zevvran smiled

“I just meant that there judgement is not beneath that of a gods” I smiled

“At least you understand” he smiled and we shared one quick kiss.

“Levon, you might want to leave her alone for a bit” I said. Veara looked curiously at all of us

“You humans and Elves have such strange ways of communicating” I laughed

“You’ll catch the hang of it one day Veara” she shook her head

I do not know about that” she said looking at Amarie. I giggled and we got on our horses and followed Levon onto the right path, heading to who knows where.

While we were riding I pulled Zevvran and I farther back. He looked at me quizzically but said nothing until we were out of ear shot.

“Yes Layana?” he said

“We need to talk” he laughed

“Uh-oh” I smiled at him

“Don’t worry, it’s nothing like that. It’s about yesterday, when you were talking to Mortrelle about the goddess of justice Anara.” He bowed his head

“Fair enough. I knew it would come up sooner or later. Better for sooner I guess. I told you about how I was fascinated with the stars right?  Well about two years after you were born, before I left for the queen I was sitting outside gazing at the stars. I fell asleep and had this… vision I guess you would call it, of Anaista. She introduced me to Anara and told me I was destined for great things. My family told me it was ‘just a dream’ but I held onto the vision and I won’t let it go” he finished slowly and distinctly. His eyes were dark; as if he was worried “it’s not really all that important”

“If it’s important to you it’s important to me” I said. He smiled and I knew that was the right thing to say. I worship Anaista and her daughters like any other elf, but I never really saw them as living beings. We rode back up so we were within the group and traveled in silence for that day.
