We have been back in Boston for a few weeks, settling in back nicely Flo was working 3 days a week loving it. I was voicing an animation which i could do from a studio here in Boston.  I was working when one of the studio crew interrupted me telling me that Flo was on the phone, and it sounded like she was in tears and had asked to call her back as soon as i could.

I walked out immediately. I called her back from my phone that i had laying in the studio as there was a no phone policy in the recording booth. There was no answer so i tried again. One of the other vets answered and told me to come straight over as something had happened with George and he was in a bad way, and they didn't think he would make it and Flo was beside herself. I hung up the phone told the crew what was going on and rushed to the clinic.

I walked in and was led to one of the exam rooms where Flo was laying on the ground holding George who was clearly banged up. One of the vets walked in telling me that while Flo was on her lunch walk with the dogs a driver under the influence of some sort of narcotic had run a red-light hitting George full on. Long story short he was basically dying, and the most humane thing was to put him to sleep. Flo was sobbing comforting George while the other vet prepared everything.

I was numb as i sat down beside Flo comforting her but i knew that no amount of comfort would make this okay. One of the assistants walked in asking if we wanted Dodger and Ollie there and Flo nodded. The assistant let them in, and they immediately laid down beside George nudging him softly as to say come on get up.

Flo stood up and walked over to the vet telling him she wanted to do it herself, so he left the room. She took the first shot which would put him to sleep and injected him while crying and comforting George telling him how sorry she was that she couldn't save him.

It broke my heart seeing her so broken and sad, to many people it is just a dog to us it are our babies. He was now asleep unaware of what was coming as she administered the shot for him to stop his heart. We said our goodbyes and George peacefully passed away Flo checked his heartbeat and when she confirmed it had stopped, she broke down sobbing uncontrollably.

I myself was barely hanging on trying to hold myself together for Flo. As i was sitting on the ground Flo in my lap still crying Ollie stood up and laid down next to his buddy. Dodger was a little bit more confused as to why George wasn't reacting to him anymore. One of the vets came in to check up on us and told us if we wanted, he could make arrangements to have George be picked up to be cremated. Apparently, that is what Flo wanted as they had discussed this once, but she wanted to take him herself.

A few hours later we came home. We had taken George to the animal crematorium and after she had said goodbye again... I drove us home with only two dogs in the back this time. Flo didn't say anything only looking out the window tears still rolling down her cheeks as she couldn't stop crying. I was surprised at myself for keeping it somewhat together. I cry quick and although i had shed a few tears i hadn't really cried yet wanting to be strong for Flo.

Her phone rang and she picked up after a few yes and no's she hung up telling me they wanted her at the police station tomorrow for a statement so they could prosecute the driver. I had totally never thought of the driver, but Flo told me he was arrested and one of the officers had helped her to get George back to the clinic in a rush.

We came home and Flo just went straight to the bedroom telling me she wasn't hungry. I called ma letting her know what happened and if she could relay it to the rest of the family. She was shocked promised me she would tell the rest and to take good care of Flo and give Flo a hug from her.

After i hung up i made my way to the bedroom where Flo was curled up with Dodger and Ollie lying in bed. She had stopped crying. I laid beside her wrapping her in my arms and that was enough for her to start crying again and that is when i lost it myself and we laid in bed both of us crying together.

After a while i dried my tears and when i looked at Flo she had fallen asleep. She was exhausted sleeping all evening and trough out the night every now and then waking up. The accident not only had taken George from her but everything that happened with her parents came back to the surface.

I slowly slipped out of bed in the morning. Flo still asleep and called the studio telling them i wouldn't be in for a few days explaining the situation. They were shocked and told me to take my time. I just didn't want to leave Flo alone for a few days. I ordered breakfast and let the dogs out into the yard to run around for a bit. Breakfast arrived and i took it to the bedroom waking Flo up. She hadn't eaten anything since lunch yesterday, so she had to eat something. We sat in bed in silence both eating breakfast. When we were done i pulled her down and we cuddled both of us not wanting to get out of bed.
