thirteen: not alone

"MAYBE DON'T DO THAT AGAIN."

hikari sits up, groaning as she does so. muichiro sits at the foot of her bed, his arms crossed and his head tilted to the side.

"huh?" hikari asks.

"you kind of sort of wanted to eat me."

hikari pauses. memories come back to her, memories of yesterday.

she did want to eat him.

she tears up immediately.

"i'm sorry." she cries. "i-i never meant to- oh god!"

she launches herself up, and throws her arms around muichiro, crying into his shoulder. he jerks at first, somewhat confused.

"i never meant to eat you! i don't know why i would try to do that!" she sobs.

"jeez, relax. i'm not mad." muichiro shrugs as he softly hugs her back. "i will be if you do it again."

hikari nods and pulls away, wiping away her tears. she looks at muichiro's shoulder. under his ripped uniform, she sees white bandages.

she looks up, and finally notices the change in scenery.

"wh... where are we?" she asks softly.

"the butterfly estate. oyakata-sama wanted you to meet some people." muichiro answers. "i don't want you too, though."

"well, why not?"

"one of them is too obsessed with women for my liking."

hikari nervously follows muichiro down the hallway. he told her about the demon slayer and his demon sister, which made hikari excited but nervous at the same time.

muichiro throws a door open, and three boys look over.

hikari instantly hides behind muichiro.

"why are you freaking out?" he mutters to her.

"i don't do well around new people! i've been traumatized by the hashira!" hikari whispers back.

"i'm the superior now. i can hit them if i want too."

"i thought no demon slayers were allowed to hurt each other..."

"when have i ever followed the rules?"

hikari smiles before peeking out from behind muichiro. the redhead waves at her, and she shyly waves back, not really knowing what to say.

"wow! she's so beautiful!" the yellow-haired boy with short limbs gushes at the sight of hikari. she flushes red and looks at muichiro for assurance, but he's too caught up in death-staring the short-limbed boy.

"mui-chan, it's okay." hikari smiles.

"don't call me mui-chan in front of these people. i'm the boss." muichiro huffs.
