"HUH."

hikari yawns, stretching as she rises from her place next to muichiro. he nods at ginko, and she flaps away into the night.

"what?" hikari asks softly.

"uzui just defeated upper moon six."

hikari claps her hands. "yay! an upper moon is very impressive!"

"i'm still mad about that dinner."

"mui-chan, it has been several months since then." hikari smiles. muichiro huffs and crosses his arms over his chest.

"okay, and?"

in all that time, muichiro and hikari still hadn't confessed their feelings for each other. it was like an awkward standoff. one where hikari got quite easily flustered, and muichiro smiled more often.

all of the pillars turned into stalkers, and they would outwardly groan with every day that muichiro still didn't make a move.

hikari came across the uzui wives on a mission once. they were buying household groceries, and got very excited to see hikari.

muichiro more or less ignored them.

hikari also saw sanemi on another mission. she resorted to shrinking into a child, and clinging to muichiro for protection. sanemi caught sight of them, but muichiro flipped the bird before the wind hashira could approach.

now, uzui had managed to defeat upper rank six with tanjiro, nezuko, inosuke, and zenitsu. he was also retiring, which shocked hikari until she learned he had lost an eye and a hand in the fight.

"did they find the hand?" muichiro asks ginko one day.

"why does that matter?" hikari asks as she molds onigiri.

"i want to slap him with it. because then, i could say 'why are you slapping yourself, dumbass?'" muichiro smirks as he draws at the table.

hikari giggles loudly at his childish antics.

she'd had a nice life up to this point. she was especially excited, however.

she would be visiting her mother.

she had seen tamayo and yushiro a few times, but it was always brief. muichiro and her would rest up there as they traveled, or stop to say hi if they passed through during a mission.

but, she would now be staying with her mother for three days while muichiro embarked on a particularly dangerous mission- one which he refused to let hikari join him on.

so, now, they were walking to the friendly demons.

"why can't i come with you? i can protect you!" hikari urges.

"i know that."

"then why are you getting rid of me?"

"i- i'm not getting rid of you." muichiro sighs. "but i'm going on a mission with another hashira. and i don't want to subject you to that kind of torture."
