julie molina was sat at her kitchen table after a horrible day at school, doing some homework.
well, trying to do some homework. all she could think about was how she screwed up her last chance in the music program, and now she's gotten herself kicked out. all because she couldn't sing a stupid song.
part of her wasn't angry though. there was a part of her that never wanted to play music again, not after the death of her mother. it was a thing they did together. she couldn't imagine playing anything without her.
but then there was the other part. the part that misses music so so much. she hates that she can't just write down and sing away her feelings sometimes. she remembers how much joy it brought her, how natural it came to her. god, she missed it so much.
but then everything would just circle right back to her mother. and she would be angry again. it was simply a never ending cycle, and she was sick of it.
she was snapped out of her thoughts when her father spoke to her, "oh good, you're home." ray molina said as he approached his daughter. "i was about to go and watch your bother's game. i've had photoshoots all day, didn't even get a chance to eat."
at that, julie gave him a disapproving glance.
"but, i got a phone call today." ray said as he sat down at the table.
julie sighed, taking off her glasses and putting them on top of her unfinished homework. "yeah, i figured as much."
"yeah, it was my relator friend." ray said, making julie sigh in relief.
"oh, that," she said. she hadn't figured out how to tell her father that she lost her spot in the music program, so she was glad she still had a bit of time to figure it out.
"yeah, and she said that if we're serious about selling the house, then she wants me to take some pictures for the website. which means, we have to do a lot of cleaning and get rid of some stuff." julie nodded her head at her fathers words. cleaning would be a good distraction for her right now so she really didn't mind.
"and maybe you can tackle mom's studio?" ray questioned julie, making her look down at the table. "you're the expert. you know, your bother and i wouldn't even know where to begin."
seeing the look on his daughter's face, ray understood that she still wasn't ready to have anything to do with music yet. "it's ok, honey. if you're not ready, i-"
"no. it's alright. maybe i'll try tonight." julie said with a shrug of her shoulders. besides, it wasn't like she would be playing music, she would just be cleaning out the studio.
"yeah?" ray questioned as he clapped his hands together. "awesome mija, thankyou. and don't forget the loft, those old instruments that were there when we moved in? they need a new home." ray said as he got up from the chair.
"mom would like that." julie said with a smile, looking at her dad as he agreed with her.
"yeah she would." ray said as he looked at his watch. "oh god, i'm gonna be late." he said as he began to pay his pockets, looking for his car keys.
"under the mail." julie said with a smile.
he snapped his fingers in her direction, "you're a lifesaver." he said to her as he rushed out the door so that he could watch carlos' baseball game. julie just chuckled gently at him, shaking her head.

later that night, julie plucked up the courage to go to her mother's studio and clean it out. walking down the steps, she grabbed the door handles and pulled open the doors, stepping into the studio for the first time in a year.
