Rico

March 10, 2023

I quickly jotted down on coach Latrell, our head football coach's, notepad. I told him that I'd be leaving the team because I had to focus on my grades. It was complete bullshit, of course, but I'm a grown man. No way in hell was I gonna admit that I'm trying to evade both Nick and Jason because they're more than capable of hurting me.

"Shit" I groaned as looked around the coach's office. Today was the big day, and everything had to go as planned now. I don't think I'm capable of building the courage to attempt this again. And I don't think my body was able-bodied enough to handle what I'm sure will be another beat down coming my way again after today, in the case that this shit goes left.

I checked my conversation with Nick's number on my phone. It was the one that I had deleted off of Nick's phone the other day. He had no idea that I knew his location because of that. I had make a fake account, pretending to be some random British girl, and had added Nick, Jason, Lewis, Nova, and her wife on social media as well. From what I saw, it seemed that Aubrey posted her friends the most out of anybody in that group. That could be a blessing and a curse, because today, it was a curse.

Aubrey had gushed yesterday about how she's so excited to go on a picnic with her friends today. Seeing that Nick's location showed Willow Bay Park-a typical picnic, fishing, and swimming spot, I figured that the whole group would be there. Aubrey also posted what I assume was Nova's foot on a blanket a good half hour ago or so.

"Please don't backfire" I pleaded and bowed my head over my steering wheel before I got out of my car. I looked around the picnic area and could spot a decent group of people in the distance. I saw Nova's long, curly hair and knew it was just whom I was looking for. "Showtime."

Aubrey

"Is that Rico?" Nova asked, as she'd been trying to tame her hair. It wasn't cooperating much given the wind. "I think so" Nick said standing up, with Jason doing the same. "Fuck does he want?"

We had been at Willow Bay park to celebrate the fact that Lewis may now be freed entirely, given Cassidy's death. So in a way, we were celebrating the fact that Cassidy was dead. You call it shitty, I call it real.

"Maybe he's not coming over here" I suggested, to which Lewis looked around. "No other group in this immediate area" he stated, "he has to be coming to us. Maybe he came to apologize."

"Oh please" Nova retorted, "he's cocky. Only thing he'll ever apologize for is having a clear face."

"What do you want?" Nick asked, folding his arms as Rico came within a forty foot distance. "Do we need to stuff you in the trash yet again?"

Rico put his hands up like the police had ordered him too. "Hold on" he said, "I just wanted to apologize to Aubrey." I cocked an eyebrow, "me?" I asked, "why me? Shouldn't you be apologizing to my wife? You know, you did try to freaking kill her."

Rico rubbed his hands together and sighed, "yeah, that was bad too. I'm sorry Nova." Nova looked at everybody around her, "it's cool" she mumbled.

"But more so Nova" Rico continued, "I'm sorry that I have to do this." Nova's head quickly shot up.

"Do what?"

"You'll see" Rico insisted, and Nova looked worried. "It's not exactly a bad thing. It's just, you probably wouldn't want me doing it." Nova no longer looked like she was gonna shit herself. Instead, she just looked more confused than anything. "Uh, okay?"

"Is this the kicker boy y'all told me about?" Hailey asked, to which everybody nodded. "Yeah."

"What were you gonna say to me Rico?" I asked, "we don't have all day and we're trying to be alone." Nick and Jason had still been standing, I noticed. But for once, they weren't so hostile towards Rico.
