The group gathered around shortly after to discuss the next step of their investigation. Colby was the last to arrive, the thought that clouded his mind about the letter he saw was the only thing keeping him from paying attention to Sam's words.
Hazel on the other hand looked as though she was about to pass out. Nate was feeling fine despite everything they just witnessed. "I think it's important to figure out what the next step is," Sam mentioned. After all, their investigation wouldn't end properly if they don't finish it with the right steps. "Must I remind everyone that the spirit box said, Melissa Thatcher? That's Isla Thatcher's mother. Shouldn't we use the spirit box once more to see if she's still here with us?" Nate asked.
Sam agreed. Now that they were all surrounded by the table, it would be safer to do the spirit box without any interruptions. Sam pulled the box out of his bag and placed it in the center of the table. "If Melissa Thatcher is still here, can you make a noise so we know it's you?" Colby called out. There was a moment of silence before a noise was heard down the hall. Melissa was still there. Watching their every move.Isla
"Did that just say Isla?" Hazel asked. Sam nods. "We're getting some serious evidence tonight. First off, we know Melissa Thatcher is Isla's mother, the spirit box confirmed it and then it said Isla's name."
"Could both Isla and Melissa be here together right now?" Colby asked, sitting up in his seat. He was paying attention to the session but it didn't matter what he did, the thought in his mind never stopped clouding him and he couldn't stop making eye contact with Hazel. She thought it was weird, so she asked if he was okay.
"Are you okay, Colby?" asked Hazel as she placed her hands on the table. He nods in response. Sam felt like that was a lie but he wanted to get the spirit box session over with before anyone lost their minds. "Do you know what happened to Isla?" He called out. There was never a moment where silence didn't deafen the room no matter what equipment they were using.
Murder
"That just fucking said murder," Nate exclaimed.
Then Sam jolted up out of his seat. "Something just fucking touched me!" "Are you serious?" Colby asked, walking up to Sam as he grabbed the camera. "Yes, on my neck. It felt like three fingers grazing on my skin."
"Maybe we should stop using the spirit box," Hazel suggested.
Colby turned to her, squinting his eyes in response to what Hazel said. "Why? Afraid some secret might get spilled?"
None of them noticed the tension in the room between Colby and Hazel or the fact that his eyes were bloodshot red. "What are you talking about?"
Colby placed the camera onto the table and chuckled while revealing a piece of burnt paper he had found while wandering on his own. "What is that?" Nate asked. While tossing the paper onto the table, he looked up at her, "Maybe she'll tell you. After all, it is directed to her by her own father."
Sam and Nate exchanged looks before turning to Hazel whose breathing was so loud, they knew something was wrong. But she couldn't find the words to say what she needed to say. He crossed his arms and watch Sam and Nate read the letter. "Oh, can't find the right words?" Colby leaned forward as he unfolded his arms, placing his hands on the surface, "I'd happily tell them what I discovered."
if Colby hadn't found that letter, the truth would've never come up and the men would've just hit a dead end. Colby had a feeling that Hazel would've never told them the truth, would've let them continue on with the investigation all the while hiding something that could've helped them in the long run. "This letter I found," He muttered, "Her father wrote it to her but it looks like she tried burning it, however, it survived the fire. Almost like it wanted to be found one day."
Sam nor Nate couldn't find the words to say. "Now, I don't know if this is some sort of sick joke but on the paper, it says your great great grandmother handed the Flower House to him but he was dying so he handed it to Hazel," Colby states as his voice shivered from the tears that threatened to leave his eyes.
"Isla is Hazel's mother."
Nate turned to Hazel. Tears left her eyes as she stood back. She couldn't fight this. She knew the secret would've been exposed somehow, but she never thought Colby would be the one to reveal it. "Is that true?" asked Sam.
"She doesn't need to confirm it, Sam. The truth is in the fucking letter." Colby spat.
Where the hell did this attitude come from?
"Alright, man. Calm down. We just wanted her to confirm it." Nate stepped in. He looked at Sam and gave him a look that Colby wasn't himself. He'd never come at Sam like that. The spirit box shot back on, the words that cut the silence were,
"Tom."
Suddenly, Colby tumbled backward and fell into his chair. It was like something left his body, something so dangerous that Colby didn't remember the last few minutes, and his body burned with scars left on his stomach and lower back. None of them had any clue that something happened to Colby and the name Tom snapped him back to reality.
What exactly happened to him?
