Chapter 21: Playing Detective

Amy's POV

I gasped in surprise when Shadow shook his head to my question. So I started wondering even more; who took me?

"Shadow who took me?" I asked with a slight worry. His eyes were piercing into mine, looking as if he was trying to figure out a response.

"Rouge took you just after you've arrived at my home." He said. I felt a sigh of relief after he'd said that. Now that I know this information, I should go ask Rouge what else she knows. Time to play detective!

I quickly stood up from sitting on the floor to walk out of the room. Instead, Shadow grabbed my arm, stopping me in my tracks.

"Where are you going Rose?" He asked.

"I'm going to Rouge's place." I said. He gave me this weird look and let go of my arm.

He stood up and said, "Let me take you there." I looked at him and then looked at his body. Shadow was having a breakdown of some sorts, had blood everywhere in his house and he wants to take me somewhere? I love Shadow but sometimes he's odd. I shook my head no.

"No Shadow, you stay here and get yourself together. I'll be back before it gets too late I promise!" I said while walking out of his house.

I started my walk over to Rouge's house. Once I got there I saw Blaze standing outside of Rouge's front door. I walked up and spoke.

"Hey Blaze." I said while giving her a hug.

"Hey Amy." She said while hugging me back. "What brings you here?" She asked.

"I'm playing detective. I'm glad you're here because I need your help." I explained. Blaze looked at me confused. "Don't worry I'll explain when we get inside." I said. She just nodded.

A few minutes have passed and Rouge hasn't came out yet. So I decided to knock on the door again. After a while I heard some shuffling and the front door swung open.

"The bat is here." Rouge says. Blaze and I greeted Rouge as we went inside.

"Amy, what are you doing here hun? Shouldn't you be with Shadow at the moment?" She asked while raising her eyebrows. Blaze turned to look at me, visibly being intrigued by the conversation.

"Well, I was with Shadow but then I decided to come here. I'm the one asking questions." I said. Rouge and Blaze glanced at each other and looked back at me.

"What kind of questions darling?" Rouge asked.

"Questions about that night we were supposed to go out to a club. Remember that Rouge?" I asked while staring her down. Rouge glanced the other way for a quick moment, expression softening for a moment.

"Wait so Amy, you want to know what happened that night?" Blaze asked. I nodded my head.

"Let's start with Rouge. Where were you while Blaze, Cream and I were out?" I asked.

Rouge looked uneasy after I asked the question. She didn't respond so I repeated myself.

"Well... I was here, in my home." She finally said. I let out a gasp.

"Rouge you wanted to go out with all of us then decide to bail? Why?" I asked sadly. Rouge let out a sigh and explained why she bailed.

"Knuckles called me that night.. he needed someone there for him and that person had to be me." She said. Blaze gave her a sad look and hugged her.

"Oh... I wish I'd known that sooner." I said. "But that doesn't change anything!" I exclaimed. Blaze gave me this look of disapproval and shook her head.

"Now to you Blaze." I said.

"Ask away Amy." She said.

"I was told that something happened while we were out dancing, where were you when I left the dance floor?" I asked. Blaze put her hand on her face, thinking.

"After you left, you took a while to come back from wherever you were. So I decided to look for you. I told Cream to keep watch but we never saw you." She explained.

I was thinking to myself for a minute. I need to talk to Cream and Knuckles after this.

"Amy, who 'told you' about this stuff?" Blaze asked me. Rouge raised her eyebrow, already knowing I presumed.

"Let's not get into those details..." I drifted off.

"Anyway, back to the original reason as of why I'm here," Blaze started. "Rouge and I were planning on another girls day out. All of us and Cream again."

"Where would we go?" I asked.

"I was thinking we should have a picnic out at the park." Rouge added. I nodded my head in approval of the fun activity.

"You promise not to leave us again Rouge?" I asked. She nodded her head.

"It was just a one time thing, I hope." She said with a shrug.

"Hey Rouge do you know where Knuckles is?" I asked.

"He should be at Sonic's house helping him with something." She replied.

"Well it's time to go play detective elsewhere. I'll see you both soon!" I said while getting ready to leave.

"If you see Cream, let her know if she can come have a picnic with us!" Rouge shouted. I left her home and was on my way to Sonic's house.

I started thinking to myself, I haven't seen Sonic since we all went ice skating. That day he seemed... off or upset. Maybe because Sally made a big deal out of nothing.

I finally arrived at Sonic's house and it was late evening. I let out a big sigh, mentally preparing for anything to happen. Sally could be here and start something random with me. Before I knocked on the door, Knuckles came out the house and looked shocked to see me.

"Hey Amy, how you been?" He said while giving me a big bear hug.

I returned his bear hug and said, "I've been good. Can I speak to you for a moment?"

Knuckles looked at me with a slight bit of worry. I reassured him it was nothing bad.

"Do you remember the night when Rouge was supposed to go out but instead she stayed home and you were there?" I asked. Knuckles looked at me weirdly before responding.

"Rouge and I were uh... just doing stuff and.. talking. Yeah talking." He said while scratching his head. It took me a minute to understand what he meant and I let out a big gasp.

"Oh I um- I did not need to know all of that... tmi Knuckles." I said. He laughed.

"Well you asked me now didn't you?" He said. I groaned and shook my head.

"Is Cream here by any chance?" I asked. He shook his head no and I let out a sigh. I was about to say something but a certain blue hedgehog came outside and looked at Knuckles and I talking.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything. Hey Ames." Sonic said.

"Hey Sonic, no you weren't interrupting anything." I said while not making eye contact with him.

"Well this got awkward. I'll see you tomorrow buddy." Knuckles said while walking away.

Sonic turned to me.

"So whatcha up to Ames? I didn't expect to see you around here." He said. I let off a shrug and started walking away from his home. He grabbed my arm and faced himself in front of me.

"Woah woah where are you going in such a rush? You came here so you must've wanted to see me or something." He said with a little smirk. I slightly frowned my face up and tried to shake his grip from my arm, but it didn't seem to work.

"I only came here to talk to Knuckles, that was it." I explained.

"Well since you're here you should stay for a little bit." He insisted.

"Are you sure Sonic? Isn't Sally here? She doesn't even like it when you look at me." I said sadly.

"Come on Ames, Sally isn't here and you should sit back and relax." He said. He wrapped his arm around me and walked me inside of his home. Boy.. will this be interesting.
