Steve woke up that morning half way off the couch in the living room, the door to the pool was left open so Steve walked outside and saw the several empty cans of alcohol left on the cement ground. He picked up the empty boxes and started shoving cans into them he tried to count the cans and there were over 20 empty beer cans out there. Steve's head was throbbing and he was suffering from a horrible headache. He threw out the boxes and then ran up stairs to get ready for the day. He put on his usual clothes the collared polo shirt and jeans. He walked out of his house door and started towards his car. He unlocked it and got in starting the vehicle. He made his way to school, when he got there it was already 8:02 he had 13 minutes to get to his first class. He stopped at his locker and started to grab his things when Eddie 'the freak' Munson came over and tried to start a conversation. Steve could smell the weed on Eddie's breath and Eddie could the rough twinge of alcohol on Steve's.
"Hey Harrington." Eddie said flirtatiously.
"Get away from me freak," Steve snapped.
Eddie put his hands up and responded, "no need to get your balls in a twist big boy." Steve glared at him and punched him to the ground.
"Stay away from me, you.. you freak," Steve yelled other students glanced over and started to stare at both Munson and Harrington. Steve slammed his locker close and walked away. Eddie's head was throbbing and he felt as if he was going to cry. He got up and ran to the bathroom, he checked every stall, he couldn't trust anyone. Eddie locked himself in a stall and tears started to fall from his eyes and quiet sobs started escaping from his lips. He sat in the bathroom until he could calm down he was struggling to catch his breath and he kept rubbing his face with his hands that were covered in rings. He had brought his hand up to his face and with out thinking he had wiped under his eyes, his wring scratched his skin and there was a red mark under his eyes that started to bleed a little bit he walked out of the stall he was in and the bathroom was still empty no one had come and no one had left. He saw himself in the mirror, his red eyes and the small amount of blood that started dripping down from his left eye. He grabbed a few paper towels and started blotting away the blood from his eye. He stood there with his left eye covered and waiting for the puffiness of his right eye to fade away. When he finally left the bathroom he had gone to his locker, he opened it and a small piece of paper fell out he unfolded it.
Munson,
I am sorry for how I reacted. I have not had a good morning and I had an even shittier night. Sorry for pushing you.
Harrington
Eddie smiled at the piece of paper. He admired Steve's handwriting and rubbed his thumb over the name Harrington once. He heard footsteps coming and shoved the paper in his leather jacket pocket. The person who turned the corner was no other than the golden boy himself. Steve nodded at the long haired boy and smiled, which caused Eddie to smile in return. Steve stared at that smile, oh how he hated that goofy smile. Steve kept walking and Eddie shoved his hands in his pants pockets. After Steve turned the corner Eddie shut his locker and started for class.
