"NO!" I screeched. "No, no no no!"
"Please, calm down, lets talk about this." Oma rationalized, sitting on her knees so our faces were on the same level.
I was crying furiously and punching Oma in the shoulder. "I stay with you!"
Her face softened. "But, you will be happier if you have adults taking care of you."
"I don't want adults! I want you!"
"But-"
"NO!"
Mother and the other kids were watching us fight with wide eyes.
"Being taken care of by adults is what you need." Oma said.
"I need you! Only you!"
"I need you to listen to me!"
Everyone was quiet before I sniffed and hugged Oma and rubbed my face into her pretty yellow dress.
"Don't leave me." I whispered. "You-you said you would not."
Oma was shocked and looked into my eyes. "I...."
"Liar," I spat.
Oma's eyes welled with tears. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She pulled me in for a hug but I pulled back.
"Lie! You lie!" I gripped the collar of her dress and pushed her back and forth. "I love you! I love Oma! You no love me!"
"I do love you! I'm doing this because I do love you!" She yelled at me, tears falling from her face now as well.
The two of us cried together until Mother interrupted us.
"They said they would be back in three days, so you still have some time together." I know she was trying to be nice, but I sent her a glare because she was emphasizing how we didn't have much time left.
"I... I miss Oma." I admitted.
"I'll miss you too. Please come visit me when you're older." She asked. I nodded and hugged her for the thousandth time. "I have to go now. I'll be back in the morning."
I choked on my tears but nodded none the less.
"Bye, bye."
:::
The next few days Oma took care of me in her house. Since I didn't want to leave her in the first place, she thought it best to at least spend as much time as we could together before the adults took me away.
The reason I was so adamant on leaving is because the adult couple doesn't just want to take me away, they also live in a different city that is far, far away.
Oma lead me to the entrance of the village where the couple would take me away. I gripped as tight as I could onto Oma's dress.
Once we stood in front of them, Oma looked down to me and handed me a small pendant and string. The pendant was a round chunk of glass with a pressed yellow flower in it. Oma strung the pendant through the string and tied it around my neck.
Small tears ran down my cheeks as she hugged me.
"I'm right here." Oma mouthed silently but I could still hear her.
I let go of her and smiled. "Bye, bye."
As I walked away, the squirrel-mouse climbed out of my pocket and onto my shoulder. The woman looked over at it and smiled.
"Such a cute little pet. What's it's name?" She asked.
I kicked one of the rocks in my path and answered dully. "Iwa." I said.
She smiled and pet its head lightly. The couple introduced themselves as we walked.
"Well, my name is Toshiko Lei." The woman said.
"And I'm Isao Lei." The man said. "What's your name?"
I continued to look down at my feet. "I don't have one."
"Well, is there any name you like?" He asked.
"I like... Oma."
"What a pretty name." Toshiko sang.
Isao smiled. "Its nice to meet you, Oma."
