Ben does his best to comfort Dustin but it doesn't help much. He hears Dustin sneak out. Ben doesn't stop him. He knows he's looking for Will. Ben would do the same if his best friend went missing, so he lets Dustin go. He knows he's not stupid enough to get caught or hurt. He trusts Dustin.

A day or two passes, Ben finds out Barb has gone missing. He knows something is wrong. He just doesn't know what's wrong yet. He'll figure it out. He won't let the mystery go unsolved. He saw Steve picking on Jonathan the day after Barb went missing. Steve walked away before Ben could intervene. Nancy helps Jonathan. Ben walks away.

That night, Dustin comes home. He looks upset. Ben is immediately concerned. "What's wrong? What happened?" 

Dustin is holding back tears. "They found his body," Dustin's voice cracks as he says this. Ben hugs Dustin. Dustin starts sobbing. This hurts Ben. Whenever Dustin is upset, it hurts Ben. This is a new level. Dustin hasn't been this upset in a very long time. Ben is holding back tears as he hugs Dustin. 

The next day, Dustin is hiding his pain from his mom. He doesn't want her to know. Ben knows and it's hurting him. Ben goes to school. The only thing he thinks about is why people keep disappearing. It doesn't make sense. Several people missing in a matter of a few days is not normal in a place like Hawkins. There's something happening that we don't know about.
