The sweltering heat made them miss the miserable English rain. The limited amount of equipment they were permitted to travel with didn't include an air conditioning unit, much less a fan.

Going outside posed too much of a risk, restricting journeys to quick trips for vital purposes only. Heading outside to get fresh air in possible view of a sniper was against the protocols Lance Corporal Ackerman had established.

The Lance Corporal ignored the heat coursing through his body by reading his book on his cot. Like the man beside him, he wore fatigues in case military danger presented itself.

However, due to the heat, he remained shirtless, unintentionally showcasing a mix of scars and wounds received before and during combat.

Furlan gasped for air, clad in fatigues and a tank top. He lay sprawled out on his cot, regretting coming to Afghanistan solely because of the weather.

He resented Levi for being able to adapt to any environment. Whether it was a desert, a jungle or the middle of the ocean, the man would reign victorious.

He glanced from the ceiling he'd been openly glaring at for an hour to Levi. "How can you read right now?" he asked, exasperated.

"Very well." Levi bluntly replied.

Furlan sighed at his humour. He looked around the base. Oruo and Eld's names had been next on the roster to make a supply run.

Gunther decided to tag along as he and Eld were a package deal. Oruo, for an unexplained reason, saw it as a challenge and fought to go with them.

Furlan's eyes made it back to Levi. He observed his partner's bare torso. Crafted muscles caressed his skin underneath. Even in his propped position, his abs were on display to the base's other occupant.

Those three had no reason to return anytime soon. A devilish smirk made its way onto Furlan's face.

He rose from the cot, scooting his way over to Levi. He sat on his knees, his head rested in his hand as he stared at Levi lovingly.

"What?" Levi addressed, eyes concentrated on the pages.

"Nothing." Furlan followed. "As in there's nothing to do right now and no one here to bother us."

"Your point?" Levi asked, allowing Furlan to believe he was playing into his hands.

"I'm just thinking." he started. Gently, he took the book from his hands and laid it on another cot. Furlan lifted his body, curling his leg over Levi's torso to perk himself on his hips. "Why don't we find a way to enjoy ourselves?"

"Anything in mind?" asked Levi, a smirk tugging at his lips.

"Maybe."

Furlan leaned down, pressing his lips to Levi's. Both men melted into each other's embrace, their fingers mapping out their bodies.

Levi's hands travelled under Furlan's tank top while Furlan massaged Levi's bare chest. A tongue poked at Levi's lips.

There was a scratch on the tent. The sudden sound had Furlan off of Levi immediately.

They leapt from the cot, finding the floor beneath their feet. A shadow cast from the sun explored the outside of the thick fabric. Levi and Furlan pursued ahead, reaching the clipped exit first.

The crates of weapons were positioned by the door. Furlan silently removed the lid and grabbed a handgun. Levi tapped his trousers, alerting Furlan. He shook his head, indicating to choose another weapon, preferably one that wouldn't make as much noise.
