Delilah
My eyes shot open to see my ceiling face to face with me as my body crashed back down to my bed, making me cry out in pain as my wrist hit the wooden bed frame. I crawled out of my bed numbly, feeling out of touch with my body and surroundings, cradling my arm as I glanced at the clock, shit, 8:15.

I stumbled towards the bathroom, my feet uncoordinated and my head pounding, my face covered in a cold sweat. I gasped for a few breaths opening up the cabinet and taking two Advils before going to remove my curlers.

Curiosity snuck up on me and despite how sure I was that whatever that place was, whatever happened was some sort of sick game he was playing, my fingers crept under my hair to the back of my neck to feel for the device.

My whole body froze as my fingers pressed into a rigid pill-shaped bump in my neck. There wasn't any way, it was a placebo, it was fake, he planted it there but it meant nothing. I reached back into the cabinet and took a few emergency puffs of my inhaler and brushed my teeth, quickly drew my black pencil liner into my waterlines and as a thin line on my eyelids, smudging it lightly with my finger and putting on my cherry lip gloss, running towards the front door, grabbing my brown corduroy bag on the way out just as Steve pulled up.

My neighbor's door opened next door and out stepped a girl roughly my age with a suitcase bag in one hand and her keys in another. I put a finger up to Steve motioning that I'd be one second. I jogged over to my neighbor's place, catching her attention calmly.

"Hey! I hope you're not in too much of a rush I just wanted to stop by and say hi, I've been meaning to know more people in the neighborhood." I said smiling, the girl dropped her things on the driver's seat and smiled back turning her full attention to me.

"I've got a few minutes yeah definitely! I'm Nancy Wheeler, it's nice having someone my age right next door, the closest company we have is my pain in the ass brother and his friends." She laughed extending a hand to shake. I shook back and couldn't help to laugh at this.

"I'm Delilah, my mom and I just moved here like probably a week ago, but hey if you ever need anything I'm just a knock away, unless I'm working then I'm more like a drive away."

"Wow you already got a job here, you are definitely motivated, where are you working?" She asked crossing her arms intrigued.

"Family Video, I'm actually off to work right now," I said looking back to Steve's car. Nancy followed my gaze but did a double take.

"Wait how do you know Steve?" Nancy asked with a puzzled look.

"Oh he's my coworker, I'm having a little car trouble so he's taking me and Robin in today, wait you know Steve?" I asked shocked considering that Steve said he only knew the Wheeler's went to Hawkins High.

"Yeah fairly well actually, he's my ex." She said laughing. I felt my face fall a little, not because of the ex thing but because Steve lied.

"I had no idea wow! Uh well, I better get going, remember I'm right next door." I said mustering up the best smile I could. She smiled back and got into her car while I trudged back to my driveway.

"Well good morning sunshine! We got you a coffee!" Robin said with a big smile, wiggling it to me from the back seat, I couldn't help but laugh a little,

"Thank you, Robin," I said taking a sip from it slowly.

"What, no thank you Steve or anything?" Steve joked backing out of my driveway. I looked at him for a second feeling that hurt in my heart again, it was stupid but I always hated lying. "Delilah is everything all right?" He asked softly.
