Finishing up in the bathroom I've cleaned my face up, finally being able to stop crying. Unlocking the bathroom door I walk back into the bedroom. Steve has all the pillows and blankets set up on the bed, a bowl of popcorn and my favourite soda. Crawling into the bed next to him I'm quick to snuggle up, laying my head on his chest as he clicks play on the movie he's chosen from Netflix.

Running his hand up and down my back he soothes me, knowing that for now the best thing for me was to just forget about it all.

Feeling myself starting to doze off in his arms I'm fighting it, Steve leans down, laying a single kiss on my forehead. "You rest my love, I'll be right here when you wake." Feeling at peace with his words I stop fighting my tiredness and allow myself to sleep. Knowing that I won't wake for anything.

*Steve POV*

Watching as Y/N fights to fall asleep, I know it's exactly what she needs after the last 48 hours she's had. Her disappearing like she did the night before really had taken it out of her. Most of the day I'd spent looking for her and the other part I was trying to figure out what had happened to her. She thought it was easily hidden but I knew she was injured.

Leaning down I kiss her forehead assuring her I'll be there when I get back. Leaving it another 20 minutes to make sure she is sound asleep, I shuffle from underneath her. Stirring slightly I soothe her until she's settled again. I knew she wouldn't wake but I needed to know she was okay. Leaning down I leave another kiss, whispering in her ear. "I'll be back soon." Getting nothing in response I knew she hadn't heard me but it okay for me to still disappear knowing I'd be back for when she wakes up.

Stepping out the room I make sure to close the door softly. I need to speak with Dan and Ivy again.

"Hey guys I was hoping to catch you in here." Ivy and Dan were in one of the offices, alongside Maria and Peter.

"Hey Steve, how you doing?" Dan greets moving his eyes away from the computer monitor.

"Yeah... I was wondering if I could have a word with you and Ivy."

"Yeah sure thing!"

"In private?" Looking back and forth to Maria and Peter they take the hint, saying their goodbyes and leaving the office. Closing the door I turn back and walk over to the two, sitting in one of the chairs.

"How is she?" Ivy asks, her voice shaking slightly with nerves.

"Not great. Anyone would think her family is abandoning her-" Ivy gulps, unable to keep eye contact, whereas my comment has really hit a nerve with Dan.

"Hey now come on a minute, that's not what's happening here!"

"Isn't it? Because after what you both told me last night, it sounds exactly like that!" Raising my voice slightly, I could feel the anger starting to build up in me, I couldn't believe how unbelievably blind they were both being about the whole situation.

"It's not like it'll be forever-"

"That's not the damn point! y/n has spent years mourning you both! She has isolated herself to the point she thought she'd always be alone! Then due to some freak miracle she gets her family back! She finally opens up, lets people in, allows herself to feel again and what... you both just decide to leave her?"

"It's... it's not like that..." Ivy's voice croaks, she barely speaks in a whisper.

"Then what is it like? Because as far as I'm concerned neither of you have any consideration for y/n and her feelings. Call it selfish but I quite liked this new version of y/n we were all seeing." Not giving either a chance to defend themselves I leave, furious at how nobody but me can see how much this whole situation is breaking y/n and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

I knew Dan and Ivy had every right to go and live their life, I mean they'd been to hell and back, but this whole scenario... I just felt it could have been played out so much better.

Clouded in my thoughts I keep walking aimlessly around the building, trying to calm myself before returning to y/n.

F.R.I.D.A.Y: CODE BLACK! I REPEAT CODE BLACK. ALL PERSONAL TO DESIGNATED STATIONS!

Code black....?

"Wait that means-"

"Y/N!!!"

Springing into action, I ignore the request, bolting to the living quarters. I needed to protect y/n at all costs, I needed to know she was safe. Taking large strides up the stairwell, I'm still only halfway there, many of the other agents are heading in the opposite direction, taking cover as per protocol. Everyone blurs into one as my main focus is getting to the room. Suddenly the ground beneath me shakes, a loud boom echoes through the tower. We've been hit! Looking up through the gap between the stairwell, I see agents rushing out from about 10 levels above. Coughing and spluttering as smoke quickly begins to fill the narrow stairwell.

"NOOO!!" Pushing past harshly I need to get to her. She was asleep when I left, she won't have heard the alert, she sleeps through anything. Within a split second everything divulges into darkness. The backup generators finally kick in, alarms are blaring, more are beginning to panic.

"Steve! What are you doing?!" I feel a hand wrap around my wrist and attempt to pull me back. Turning quickly I yank my arm free.

"Sharon, it's y/n! She's- she's still up there!" I stutter, not wanting to waste another second explaining myself.

"She's still up there? B-but why? How?"

Realising how stupid her questions sound, her eyes widen in pure fear. Sharon knew y/n more than anyone and soon learned of her habits and patterns. Nodding, I turn grabbing the rail to make the final lunge to where I need to be.

"WAIT!" turning I see the panic in her eyes.

"I'm coming with you!" Without hesitation Sharon follows close behind. Getting into the main corridor of the living quarters we rush down, finally getting to the door I grab the handle, any second y/n will be in my sights and safe.

Just as I push the handle down Sharon and I are thrust back, the content of the door in front of us exploding. The deep boom deafens around us, shrapnel going everywhere. Hitting the ground at force, the walls around us collapse, trying to muster my strength. I look around me, roaring fire surrounds us, smoke quickly filling our lungs.
"Y-y/n!" I tried to call. "Sharon!" Looking behind, I see Sharon is trapped under a concrete beam unconscious. Staggering to my feet I rush over.

"Sharon, come on, wake up! Wake up!" Groaning at me she starts to come to. "Come on, I'm gonna get you out of here." Bending my knees I take grip of the beam, Gritting my teeth and using all the strength I have, I begin lifting the beam, shouting in pain as even this is a challenge. Scrambling beneath me, Sharon tries to crawl free.

Then out of nowhere the structure above becomes unstable, crashing down on us, we're consumed by the devastating damage, becoming trapped and helpless, with nobody coming to save us.
