*12 HOURS EARLIER*
Aimlessly wandering the stress of New York city I was desperate to be anywhere but home. Whatever 'home' was these days. Finishing the bottle of liquor, discarding the bottle in an alley I keep making my way through Queen's, heading for sweet o' Brooklyn. The only home I wanted to be in was my old one. My real one.
Another 20 minutes and I am greeted by the familiar apartment block. Even now it still looks exactly the same, I wasn't sure when they'd eventually closed it down but all that remained to keep people out was rickerty old fencing.
Standing I close my eyes, memories flooding back from this place. All the good times... and the bad.

"Kids come on, we're going to be late!" Grace calls her children through the tiny apartment as she gathers together the last bits of their lunches. "Thomas, would you be a dear and pick the children up for school this evening?" Walking into the kitchen area he greets his wife with a tender kiss.
"My dear you know I'd love to but-"
Sighing in disbelief Grace shakes her head in disappointment at her husband.
"Oh come on Gracie, don't look at me like that. I have a really important project that I've been working on."
"So you keep saying..."
"I'm doing this for the children."
"For the children". She repeats. Walking away from her husband to go and find her children.
"Children, I won't ask again! We're going to be late!" Gathering their coats from the shabby coat rack she waits for them all to appear.
"Mom, we're here. I was just helping y/n and Ivy with their backpacks."
"Aw Daniel, my golden boy!" She beams giving his cheek a pinch and a kiss on the other. "Oh mom, don't!" He mutters, pushing himself away.
"Okay so I need you to look after your sisters tonight after school, because you're father-"
"Your father is very busy working on a top secret surprise for my beautiful children."

"We knew you'd turn up eventually." Being pulled from my thoughts I turn, not being able to see anyone in the shadows. Shrugging it off and thinking I'm just imagining things I decide to grip the fence, pulling it allowing me access to the apartment building.
Walking up the ten flights of stairs I finally get to apartment 10B. Home. Reaching over to try the handle it hovers in place, focusing past my hand I can see the door is already off the latch. Instantly I got that deep sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach and I knew this was all a bad idea, but I had to see.
Cautiously I push the door open, making sure to keep back slightly until it's fully open. I needed my torch but I couldn't risk Steve or somebody blowing my phone up again. I relied on my oddly good night vision to keep me safe. The alcohol had already worn off and I could feel my senses heightened again.
Searching myself I'm relieved to know that I did indeed bring my gun with me, pulling it out I stretch it infront of me, cautiously walking into the apartment. At first glance walking down the hallway there is nothing out of the ordinary, everything appears to be exactly how we left it all these years ago when Hydra took us away.

"We believe you and your siblings possess great power. Great strength. We want that. We think it would bring great potential to our institution."
***
Shuddering at the memory coming back to me I shake my head, trying to prevent the memory from taking over...
***
One gunshot to the head and twice misfires around the room. Screams begin filling the room as my mother rushes over to my fathers lifeless body but that was a mistake. A random agent approaches my mother from behind, raises his gun and shoots her dead from the back of the head. Within the space of a minute both my parents were dead..
***
Gasping in pain, I stop in my tracks, holding onto my chest as it aches from the pain of loss. So many good memories in this place, tainted by one bad one. Trying to compose myself I wipe the stray tears from my face, heading to the main living room area.
Twisting the handle I slowly begin opening the door, startled to see some sort of light illuminating the room. Puzzled, I continue on, stepping into the room. My jaw dropping slightly, my eyes widen at the sight in front of me.
The walls were covered in photographs. Photographs of myself, my siblings and everyone from the Avengers. Surveillance images of all entrances and exits of the tower and to my dismay, images of Steve's and I's room.
"What the-"
"We were wondering how long it would take you to find us again y/n." I swear I feel my blood run cold, hearing the piercing voice from behind me. Slowly turning in place I see Rumlow behind me, sitting comfortably behind a makeshift desk.
"Rumlow..."
"Grab her." Feeling two large pairs of hands restrain me from behind I start shouting for them to let me go, using all my strength to try and break free, but it's not good. Whoever these men were, they possessed the strength of a super soldier like I.
Walking up to me his fist tightens, swinging hard and winding me with his punch. Continuing the moment for the next few minutes it's all a blur. Being dropped to the floor I try muster all my strength to pull myself up. Kicking me in the stomach once more I collapse to the ground, groaning in pain. Leaning down close, Rumlow whispers into my ear.
"You will be back here tomorrow, otherwise your little 'avenger's family is gonna get it."
"Screw you!" I manage through gritted teeth.
"4pm..."
"And if I don't"
"Let's just say your sweet little Captain will be 6 feet under."
