Their last week together went on without a hitch. Where Steve went, Billy went. Where Billy went, Steve went. Each thought the other would have gotten sick of him but that was definitely not the case. So they had their fun playing around, picking flowers (Billy found out he kind of liked doing this), going on jogs (Steve found out he would rather not do this) and kissing, of course. A lot of kissing. Never anywhere farther but they definitely had to hold themselves back often because things could get heated pretty fast.
Steve was getting calls left and right, mostly from Dustin and Robin but the rest had checked in too as it neared the final days. They all made jokes about Billy, threatening to rough him up and the like if he touched a single hair on Steve's head. The brunette would just put on a tight-lipped smile and nonchalantly reply that Billy had been perfect the whole time. No one believed that, obviously. He ended up taking his calls in the bathroom or on the surface so his roommate didn't have to listen in when they brought him up.
The only person he could truly talk to about everything was Robin. It was a bit nerve-wracking, honestly, to consider how the others might react if he told them exactly how perfect he thought Billy was. They'd probably think he was crazy. Or that Billy must have cast a spell on him, somehow because Steve really really really loved women. It's just boys weren't so bad either, especially one in particular with long blonde curls framing his face.
In the final couple of days, Billy started acting differently. He was isolating himself, again and no one was sure why. Alex had a feeling this was one of his lower episodes but he refused to talk to him or anyone. He just wasn't as present, anymore and it was a far cry from all the cuddles and lingering touches Steve had grown accustomed to. As usual, he complained to Robin who got tired of his relationship problems and eventually demanded that she speak to Billy.
Wide-eyed, Steve immediately began to refuse but she wasn't having it. After some weak relenting, he gave up. If anyone could get Billy to open up, maybe it was Robin. She could be quite intimidating when annoyed. Billy looked up at him with a dull expression, arching a brow when Steve wordlessly handed him the device.
"Alright. Is this Billy on the other end?"
"Ye-"
"Alright. Let's begin."
"Cool. I'd like to know what this is all abou-"
"This is a lecture, not a discussion. Don't interrupt me. Ah, you're silent? Good. Quick learner. That'll do you some good around here." Biting his lip, Steve watched as Billy's expression grew more and more gentle by the second, a great deflect from his incredulous one at the very start. He stayed completely silent till she was finished scolding him. Afterwards, he looked up to Steve who was about to run away, but there was a slight smile on his face that made him do otherwise.
He stretched a hand out to the unexpecting brunette, tugging him onto his body. Steve tried to muffle his gasp, groaning when he heard the end of Robin's little chat with Billy. "-look he's a really needy idiot so just be there for him, alright? He needs a lot of love, especially now that you two are whatever you are because he hasn't had this in a while. He didn't get enough love as a child, really- that might be too much information- but anyway I'm trying to help you, here. Help me help you by doing exactly what I say. Make. Him. Happy. So he can stop whining to me. Also, speaking of, why exactly are you two not confirmed boyfriends ye-"
"Ah, thank you Robin! I think he's had enough!" Billy shook his head at him when Steve tried to grab the walkie-talkie and the latter pouted, folding his arms with great effort even when the amused grin Billy had on his face was melting him. Billy's expression got serious when he returned his attention back to the phone, though.
