Kon'nichiwa mina! Welcome to the next chapter of Essence of a True Hero. I know this chapter is long in come, so here we are. The music for this chapter is namely for the beginning, but it might last through your entire read. Have fun! After a game of excitement of giving your all to open doors, the worst has happened. The one member who did not play had his door opened and now demands retribution. Class 1-A doesn't think the offender is up for the challenge.
Most of Class 1-A was outside behind their Heights Alliance dormitory, gathered round to see a most-likely one-sided fight which the boys certainly felt fitting, and the girls could agree with if only because Midoriya did open Todoroki's door, and they did want to do the fun thing they wanted to; however, this apparently came first.
The two stood on opposing sides: Midoriya and Todoroki. Todoroki seemed dead-set on putting the speedster in his place while Midoriya had been grinning without a care in the world until he stood face to face with Todoroki. His eyes focused on him, narrowing to a point while his hands and feet spread to allow for mobility. Sero had appointed himself referee. The moment he said, "Begin," for a split second anyone who was observing could have seen how Midoriya visibly stilled, his stance sinking a little lower, his shoulder easing just slightly. After the last "n" sound, the speedster was already gone.
He reappeared right behind Todoroki, sweeping the leg. Everyone gasped in nervous horror to watch Class 1-A's newest member learn the hard way how to being a popsicle was a direct result of fighting Todoroki; Hagakure could attest to the pains which came of being on the wrong end of the dual-quirked student's attack.
Midoriya, however, did sweep the leg, mostly, unbalancing Todoroki, as he in turn tried to freeze him. Before the dual-quirked student could accomplish his end, Midoriya was gone. By then, the vicinity was covered in a thin sheet of ice. Midoriya appeared on the edge of it and glanced around.
Todoroki was already sending his next attack, a wave of ice, surging towards the speedster. As the impending force raced towards him, Midoriya again disappeared, favoring a new spot on the edge of the ice ring. They continued like this, surging and evading, for a few minutes until Kirashima became fed up and yelled, "Do something!"
Freezing death again raced towards Midoriya as he visibly calmed, and the audience waited with baited breath. A strike against his pant leg seemed to get the jitters out of him, but once again, Midoriya had disappeared.
The crack of ice drew everyone's attention, but Midoriya seemed to faze in and out of existence until he was suddenly much too close, much too quickly, striking Todoroki in the face.
The left hook sent the other boy staggering, followed by a right hook to his side. Within seconds, they were out of the ice field and the everyone heard, "You can do better than that," coming between huffs. It took Asui whispering as Midoriya continued his unrelenting assault, "He's been attacking his left side," for everyone else to catch on.
Todoroki continued to freeze his surroundings, moving to cover his right side in ice, but Midoriya closed his range, jabbing at his chest here before moving to his left knee joint there and then to his left hip.
Todoroki spun to compensate for the targeting to his left, freezing the ground around him, but as Midoriya kept circling him and goading him with a periodic, "Come on," or "Show me what you can do," the ice steamed and melted just as it had in the class battles, but the fire never ignited. Surely it would soon because Todoroki was looking angrier by the minute.
It didn't before Midoriya retreated about two meters away. His fists were on his hips as he huffed through an expression of complete exasperation, much to everyone else's surprise, "I can't believe that you don't use it."
