NOT THE VENTS! Why....

I followed Mono into another stupid room with Jake and June on either shoulder. The Nomes surveyed the side hallways for threats while I kept us marching forward, bow at the ready. I also gave Jake a knife for backup.

We met up with Six, who was breaking the fingers on a prosthetic arm. A shudder ran up my spine and the Nomes held onto my shirt. "Hey... Sixer..." I said softly, and she turned to me, eyeing the Nomes. "No, no, the Nomes are friends, Six, don't worry. They're gonna be joining us." I explained as Mono opened a side door. Mono and I got boosted into a dim room and I heard Six run away.

Mono turned off the lights and focused his flashlight beam on the mannequin, which ran at us before freezing in the light. "They move." Mono and I said in horrified realization. We went down a hall full of mannequins, shinging a light on all of them. The Nomes hid in the hood of my parka as we crawled under a bed and through a door. Mono walked backwards, illuminating the dolls as I led the way forward.

We crawled into a vent and I let out a shaky breath. "Is something wrong?" Mono asked me. "Mono, everything is wrong here. The living dolls, the evil adults, the damned signal! And these vents. I hate small spaces. I can't breath in them!" I started to panic. "Calm down, calm down." He said as every bit of metal in the area began to quake and float towards us.

"Do what I do, okay?" He said, gripping my hands. "In for four, out for eight, keep your cool, we're doing great." He said, breathing deeply. I copied, feeling my heart rate slow. "Okay... impressive... Thanks." I said, and he hugged me. "No problem. The vents used to freak me out too, but they're mostly safe from adults. Are you okay to go in one, or do you want to wait?" He asked me. "I... will go with you. It isn't safe for you to go alone." I said. We got into a room that stank of death.

We walked down the cold halls and graying hands shot out, trying to grab us. Mono grabbed ,y hand and the Nomes held on for dear life as we ran away.

Mono stood just before a filing cabinet we had to climb, freezing the bodies in their tracks. "Thirteen, you and the Nomes climb up first. I'll follow immediately after." He said. "What? No way, Mono, I'll hold the light. I can climb faster anyway." I said, taking the light from his hands and putting the Nomes on top of his head.

"No way, Thirteen, I am not having you put yourself in danger." He said, trying to take the light. "You've been putting yourself in danger this entire time! Let someone else take the risk for once!" I said, holding the light.

"No, Thirteen, I'm older, I should do it!" He said. By now we where playing tug-of-war with the light. "And I am more experienced at climbing!" I retorted. "I am the guy!" "That is sexist, and I have the weapon!" "The Nomes need you!" "Six needs you!" "You've known Six longer!" "But you're the one who managed to help her!"

"I can't stand the thought of loosing someone else, damn it!" We cried in unison.

The light fell from our hands and we shrieked as it clicked off. Mono scooped up the light and we both began to climb the cabinet. "Thirteen-" I climbed into a vent, ignoring him and flicked on a light.

Long story short, we lured a mannequin into a wheelchair out of said chair and used the chair to get into a room of moving dolls. We tossed a fuse to Six, who used it to open the door for us. I pulled the fuse back, closing the door. "I am not letting those things out into the world." I hissed, tears pricking in my eyes.

We walked through a morgue, and I avoided Mono's gaze. The cabinet shuddered and Six held off a hand while Mono and I used pipes to destroy the damned hand. Six abandoned the cabinet to pull off the boards, and we broke the hands, landing in a room with fleshy masks.

On the other side of hospital linens, something moved. We crawled underand saw The Doctor on the ceiling, like a rock-climbing walrus.
