"Can we rest now?" I asked. We where out of the school, out of the rain, and I was tired to the bone. "Of course." Mono said. I peered into a nearby crate, looking for food, but instead I saw quilts."Hmmm..." I pushed some empty crates together, making a raised platform, and set the quilts on top, making a sort of nest. I motioned for Mono and Six to climb in and we all curled up in the middle.

For once the rain was a comforting noise as I drifted off to sleep, warm and safe.

I woke up who knows how much later, my stomach rumbling. Mono and Six where still asleep, so I grabbed my bow and quiver, climbing out into the rain. Almost directly outside the building was a rosehip bush, so I picked a few red buds, tucking them into a drawstring pouch for later.

Soon enough I heard cooing and saw pigeons pecking at the damp ground. I crouched behind a corner and focused on the fattest three. "Okay.... Just as you where taught..." I muttered, letting three arrows fly.

Each hit a pigeon as the rest flew off, but I got us food. Taking out a pocket knife, I cut off the head, feet, amd sliced open the stomachs, pulling the organs and bones out and discarding them. My hands where bloody as I plucked the feathers, but I rinsed them with water overflowing from a gutter and climbed into an open apartment window.

I scrounged through the cupboards, finding a pot, some bowls, some cups, and a tea kettle. I took my findings and went back to my friends after filling the kettle and pot with clean water. I saw Mono sitting with his bag off his head, his back to me. I crept around silently and looked at him from the side.

"You feelin' okay, dude?" I blurted. He jumped, and almost immediately he put the bag back over his head. "Where were you?" He asked, sounding miffed. "I was getting food. I figure running for our young lives works up an appetite." I said, setting up a fire spit. I put the pigeons in the pot and split the rosehip buds between the pot and the kettle before using a campfire lighter to start a fire. Every so often I stirred the soup as I felt Mono stare at me.

"You're really handsome, you know." I blurted out, blushing immediately. "W-what?!" He shrieked. I glanced at Six, who was still sleeping soundly. "You look good, Mono. Kinda scruffy, but we all are." I said. "Why do you hide your face anyway?" He seemed flustered.

"The signal-" He began. "If you where just worried about the signal. You could wear a tinfoil hat. Not a whole bag." I cut him off. "Erh.... at the orphanage I was at... before it was.... destroyed.... the kids where afraid of how I looked. My grey skin, my hair is unruly, and my eyes are too big for my face." He said. With a sigh I stopped stirring the pot, walking over to Mono and standing eye level to him.

"If they honestly said that, I'd show myself proudly just to spite them." I said gently, lifting the bag off his head. "And I mean it. You are very attractive." I said with a smile.

" I said with a smile

"Heh. If you say so, Thirteen." He said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I do say so, and I also say wake up Six, the tea and soup is ready."
