CASEY BARELY GOT A FEW HOURS OF SLEEP. She spent most of the night lying awake, deep in thought. The fight replayed in a constant loop in her mind. Hopper never yelled at her like that, for any reason. So, she couldn't figure out why he blew up on Eleven the way he did. It clicked all too late. He was scared. Scared that the past might repeat itself. And when she looked at it that way, she understood. But that didn't make it right.
The teen got out of bed earlier than usual since she planned on riding her bike to school. After the night before, she intended on being difficult with her dad until he apologized. When she walked out of her room, she had forgotten about the mess throughout the house. Her shoulders slumped at the thought of cleaning it up, but she decided it wasn't hers to clean. So, she put on a pair of shoes and carefully navigated around the shards of glass.
She got ready for her day then made herself some breakfast. Sat at the dining table, shoveling spoonfuls of sugary cereal into her mouth hoping that it would give her some energy.
"You were up early."
Not bothering to turn around, she nods mindlessly taking one last bite then standing from her seat, "Didn't sleep much." She washes her dishes quickly in the sink then dries her hands. She goes for her jacket on the back of the couch, zipping it up and then grabs her backpack.
Hopper had moved into the kitchen to start a pot of coffee, "What're you doing?"
"I'm going to school," she answered with an attitude.
His expression hardened as her name left his mouth in a harsh tone, "Casey–"
She already had her speech prepared, waiting for the perfect moment to use it, "I get it, Dad. Better than anyone. I don't want to lose her either. But last night–last night cannot happen again. Or we will lose her, and it's not going to be because of Hawkins Lab. So, you fix it."
He looked at a loss for words as Casey swung open the front door and slammed it shut behind her. She didn't miss a beat. It came out exactly like how she planned it in her head and she was proud of herself. And, hopefully, it gave Hopper the necessary push he needed to stop reliving the past.

The first thing Casey did when she arrived at the high school was look for Steve. She didn't imagine he was in the best of moods after yesterday. And he never called her last night like he said he would, so they never got to really talk about it.
She found him by his locker, a seemingly doleful expression. For once, she snuck up on him, "Boo!"
Unfortunately for her, he didn't move a muscle, "I saw you coming, bright eyes." There was a hint of a smirk on his lips as he closed his locker and turned to her.
