George pov

I gasped awake when I heard the crack of a whip, trying not to whimper out loud, I could see the other cats waking up quietly, not daring to make any sound. I shrank back into my cage as far away from the steps of the shop master as possible, his footsteps echoed through the quiet shop as he kept cracking the whip. 

I tried not to whimper when he stopped in front of the cage next to mine, one containing a girl the breed of an American bobtail. She shivered and whimpered quietly, not quiet enough because the shop master clearly heard her and growled, cracking the whip again. 

'You're lucky we're opening up.' He growled and I shivered, the poor girl covering her mouth with her hands to try not to whimper. I felt bad for the girl but I couldn't do anything about it, we all get treated like this. She's probably going to get tortured after the store closes.

I shrank back in my cage and hid silently as customers came and went, some of the pets daring to take a peek at them. Most of the customers comes to buy tools or cages for their own pets and people rarely come to actually buy pets.

I sighed quietly as the girl beside me trembled in fear since we're going to close in a few hours. I looked up a tiny bit when I heard the ring of the bell indicating somebody had entered.

I saw the gold locks of a golden retriever's tail and I looked back down, I had a friend who was a golden retriever once before I got captured. Sadly, right before I got captured, he was shot trying to protect me from getting captured. 

I pulled my knees up to my chest and curled my black tail in front of me, just in the light for the customers to see. Black cats are usually very rare and hard to find therefore they always sell for large amounts of prices. 

'What can I do for you today?' I heard the fake sweet voice of the shop master and I rolled my eyes slightly, looks like somebody important came into the shop or else he wouldn't have used such a sweet, fake voice to greet them.

'I would like to buy a pet.' I heard the customer say and I sighed quietly, our first customer that actually wants to buy a pet. 

'Oh, nice. What type would you like? We have some rare types like Bobtails and Sokoke, we even have a little black cat.' The shop master said and I shivered, this was his first time actually pointing me out to a customer in a long time, and I didn't like it when he does. 

'Can I see the black one?' I heard the customer say and I froze, shrinking back into my cage a little, I didn't like being looked at, because it meant the shop master was going to pull me out of the comforts of my cage. 

I heard the footsteps of the shop master approach my cage, making me shrink back as far as possible, pressing my back against the bars, wincing as pain shot up my back from the wounds and slashes the shop master gave me. 

I whimpered quietly as he crouched down and glared at me, unlocking and opening the door to my cage. He mouthed the word behave quietly and clipped the leash to my collar, dragging me out of my cage roughly, nearly choking me in the process from how tight the collar was on me. 

He pulled me up and I looked down, not daring to look at the customer. My breath quickened when I felt his hand lightly caress my ears, making them twitch lightly. I flicked my tail side to side as he lightly patted my head, making me want to purr.

'He looks terrified.' The customer said and I bit back a whimper, I saw the shop master shift in his spot and sigh. 

'He's very obedient.' The shop master said, not really answering the question. I felt the customer's hand slip under my chin and lift my head up, making me meet his eyes. My eyes widened a little as I stared into his emerald green eyes, he was really handsome with his dirty blonde hair covering part of his eye, and I pushed back the urge to purr into his hands.

'I'll take him.' He said and my eyes widened, the shop master also seemed to be a bit shocked. 

'U-uh, sure, you don't want to look around more? Maybe-' The shop master said but the retriever cut him off, huffing a sigh.

'No, I'm fine. I'll take him.' He repeated and the shop master blinked, nodding and giving my leash to the customer, walking back over to the counter and pressing some things into the computer.

The retriever walked over to the counter, I followed quickly so I wouldn't choke from him dragging me over. 

I spaced out as the customer paid for me and bought some other things. I was still surprised that he had bought me, I never thought I would ever leave this retched place, honestly, nothing could be as bad living here. 

'Come on.' I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the retriever's voice cut through the air, making me tense up and follow him out of the store, not wanting to stay at the store one more second. 

We walked in silence for a bit as I stared down at the ground, suddenly, I bumped into the retriever and stifled a gasp.

'I-I'm so sorry...' I whimpered quietly and froze when I heard a sigh from him. I felt him crouch down in front of me and pick me up into his arms bridal style, making my eyes widen and mewl in surprise. 

'Jeez, what did he do to you?' He sighed and I realized we were next to a black limo, a butler exiting the front of the car and walking over to where we were and opened the door for the retriever. 

He entered the car still holding me and placed me next to him on the seats, and I shrank back a little, he seemed to be alright, way better than I thought he would be. 

'What's your name?' He asked and I tensed up a bit as he pulled me into his lap, making my tail swish side to side. 

'G-George.' I said quietly and my breath hitched when I felt him nuzzle his face into my fuzzy hair, inhaling and making my ear twitch lightly. 

'Hi George, you can call me Dream.' He smiled and my eyes widened, he wanted me to call him by his name? I nodded and curled my tail up slightly, a small purr resonating from my chest as I slowly relaxed in his arms. 

Suddenly, I coughed from the lack of air and my hands shot up to the collar, trying to loosen it a bit. I felt Dream reach up to loosen it a bit and I whimpered in pain. 

'It's so tight, here, I'll loosen it a bit.' He sighed and I whimpered as the collar loosened on my neck, finally letting me breath. 

'T-thank you.' I said quietly and leaned into him, purring and swishing my tail side to side. I closed my eyes and meowed quietly when I saw Dream's tail wagging in happiness. 

I snuggled closer to Dream and I felt him wrap his arm around me protectively, pulling me into him. Maybe this won't be so bad after all.
