"May I ask you a question?"

"You just did."

A month passes in silence as Ivah Recovers from the injuries and today Hiccup is glancing at Ivah who is laying down, staring at the ceiling.

A rare occurrence despite their injuries.

Ivah was constantly trying to see the strength of their own body. Constantly in the focus of rehabilitation and their expression would change to one of frustration before cooling completely.

As though never having experienced the frustration in the first place.

Most of Hiccup's time was spent in his hut now anyways. Aside from the necessities or other responsibilities he spent his time with the recovering... Leith.

It wasn't that he was avoiding Astrid.

No.

Of course not.

Well maybe.

But how was one supposed to handle their Leader of Berkian Guard/ ex-fiancé / Most trusted advisor/ woman who apparently was alright with torture after an argument like that?

Hiccup was just going to give himself time.

He glanced at the new set of medical supplies he had gathered and turned to the Hersir who lay in the bed and it dawned on him exactly why they had succumbed to their stillness.

It was about that time for their bandages to be changed and medicine to be reapplied. A process that stung , both physically and emotionally as it became clear the first time that Hiccup had done it, the Hersir was accustomed to treating their own wounds.

The first time Hiccup had treated the wounds made it very clear and very obvious that Ivah believed he didn't know what he was doing as they were full of tips and tricks and their jaw would tick every time he very obviously caused pain to the wound.

"Time for the bandages to change are you ready?" Hiccup asked gently and Ivah actually spoke.

"Chief of Berk-"

"Call me Hiccup."

A pause.

"Haddock."

Ivah had a tendency to find the middle ground quite quickly between what they wanted and what he wanted. Something told him that in the future if she were to become Chief after her father, she'd be better at negotiating then he was.

"Within the boundaries of the truce is it customary for demands to be made?"

Another thing that Hiccup was picking up on was that when given the option Ivah would carefully select each sentence before speaking them.

Hiccup nodded. "There is. Whatever you're thinking of asking me for, I'm sure we could work it out."

Silence.
