"Elle a échoué Monsieur."
"Oui, c'est dommage."
"Elle arrive dans le couloir maintenant."
" Oui, j'ai injecté le poison comme vous l'avez demandé."
"Au revoir."
The phone hung up only minutes after it rang, the boss wasn't pleased to hear that she failed to complete the mission. I never thought it would be easy, but that woman's actions never ceased to confuse me.
Lucile was dropped off in front of me, and I took the honors of tying her up in ropes. She laughed playfully, as if she wasn't going to be punished.
"You failed."
"I know that."
"And you're not concerned about the consequences?"
"No, I know what I did was right."
"Such a pity, you'll die in vain. We'll capture them nonetheless, you know that, correct?"
"If you do, at least I delayed it, even if it's just a day."
Lucile glared at me while being tied up in rope.
"However, it is an honor to die the way huh? For someone so far into the future as yourself!"
"It is your last hour Lucile, it's the least I could do!"
She chuckled lightly, spitting out blood.
"Was it really necessary for you to poison me though? It's not fast acting either."
"What would be the fun in that? I won't let some measly poison take my fun away! No worries though, I won't kill you, we'll just play until you die."
"You never changed, I guess unpleasant habits do die hard."
"Then I guess that makes you one yourself."
"Like smoking?"
"No, more like nail biting."
"How so?"
"I never picked up smoking, but the only way I could wean off of you left a bad taste in my mouth."
I took the acid sitting on the counter and forced open her eyes. I dropped a few drops into them, but Lucile barely squirmed.
"You were always a tough cookie, Lucile."
"I had to, to deal with you!"
"If you didn't start rebelling, we could have been together all those years ago. To think, this was your last chance at life! What happened to that coldhearted soul I knew, the one who came here with no one to turn to 27 years ago?"
"She died a long time ago after seeing who you, and this whole organization is about!"
"Still, I never thought you'd throw your life away for puppets with no real choice. They'll join us soon, no matter what you do."
"Even if, they'll just escape again as soon as you catch them. They have a choice, they have a will, and they have a mind! They are people, no matter what they were born into!"
I had enough of her yelling, but fortunately I no longer had to hear it. Lucile winced in pain, her eyes; nose; and mouth dripping out blood. The poison was getting to her.
"The more you talk, the faster you go," I warned.
Lucile smirked, "That's the point."
I smiled, seeing right through those dull orbs of hers.
