Libia
"I've waited so long to see you Libia, your brother is so fond of you!" Dr. Sybil explained after measuring my height, "That's why I especially wanted to at least give you a regular physical, you know, to see how much his little secret has grown."
I didn't respond to any of it, I couldn't allow her to sway me to any other side. Nonetheless, Dr. Sybil couldn't help but smile,
"He's always been the distant type. Defensive and rebellious to everyone but his parents, I knew it was out of fear. However, I can see it in you, you have been hurt, yes? Not from your brother though..."
She wasn't wrong, not that long ago I was in the middle of a fight or two. I turned away from her, slipping down from the bed.
"I apologize, but this is making me uncomfortable. I'll let my brother stay for now, but I'd like to go home." I uttered, but I felt a hand embrace my slender arm.
"You can't walk away in the middle of everything Libia, I guess your brother didn't teach you that yet?"
I could feel the doctor's soft stare behind me, and I dared not to look.
"He did, but this isn't worth my time-"
"That doesn't mean you can break a promise. No matter how insignificant it is, finish what you've started, and never break your word. You agreed to let me do this physically when you could have easily attempted to escape or argued until I or you gave in. This could have turned out differently, you know."
I didn't want to admit it, but she was right. I returned to the hospital bed, an awkward silence filled the room as Dr. Sybil finished off.
"I'll stop talking about Rave for now, alright?"
She finished with the basic physical, then went on to run a few more tests on me. The doctor made it seem so natural, and despite my intentions I felt I could somehow trust her.
'I can't'
I promised Rave I wouldn't; I couldn't break two promises in one day, not after all of this.
'I promised him I would trust only him. I promised him that he would never have to go to the hospital again.'
Broken promises clouded my mind, no longer did I listen to the instructions Dr. Sybil gave. I wondered if Rave trusted her, he must have, right? She knows so much about him. Rave would never allow just anyone to know that much about him, let alone know him personally at all.
"Is that alright Libia?"
I snapped out of my thoughts, looking up at Dr. Sybil, who was standing next to a nurse.
"Huh?"
She giggled, knowing that I spaced out.
"I need to leave for a bit to help another patient, your tests are over, and the results are coming in. I'll be back with them in hand, will you be alright alone?"
I nodded silently, watching as the doctor left. That nurse she was with stayed behind a bit longer, peculiarly observing my being as if I was the odd one.
''I need to get out of here...'
I knew exactly where to go, but of course I was cautious. Dr. Sybil could have been anywhere and what if some other doctor caught me in the act or looked suspicious. Luckily, all I had to do was take off that ugly gown and be on my way. I easily blended in as a visitor, no one paid me any mind until I reached the emergency entrance. I thought I could just slip right by, no one cared as long as you weren't running around causing trouble. At least that's what I thought. As soon as I opened those double doors I was met by a smile so sweet, it couldn't be genuine.
