Over the rest of the weekend, Mike, Dustin, and I played Dungeons & Dragons together so I could level up my character. I got really into it—which I figured was a pretty good excuse, right? Honestly, I wasn't even sure why I wanted to learn how to play DnD so badly. I just knew I wanted to.

"You're actually good. You should come play a game with us this week," Mike suggested, casually flipping through his character sheet.

"No, I think I should wait a little longer before I do that."

"Suit yourself," he mumbled, already half-distracted by his dice.

School that week went by like normal—except for homeroom.

Eddie and I started passing notes on Monday, and by Tuesday we were walking the halls together whenever Robin wasn't glued to my side. It had only been two days, but those small moments with him kept getting interrupted by Andy. He'd ask me to sit with him during lunch, drop invitations to basketball practice, or just hover—probably to annoy me, if I'm being honest.

By the end of Tuesday, Robin had definitely picked up on it. She spent the entire ride home interrogating me.

So naturally, I threatened to talk about Vickie—her new crush, who she was absolutely head over heels for.

"Don't worry about it, Robin. She's definitely not fully straight... I think," I told her Wednesday morning as Steve drove us to school.

"Yeah, Robin," Steve added. "You like boobies, I like boobies, Y/N likes Eddie—but that's just 'cause she has horrible taste—"

"We've been hanging out for like a week, Steve. We're literally just friends," I said, rolling my eyes at him.

"Yeah, yeah," he mumbled, smirking. "But Robin, seriously—don't sweat it. She's totally not fully straight."

Later that day in class, Eddie passed me a folded piece of paper. When I opened it, I found a ridiculous drawing of Andy playing basketball—except instead of a ball, he was holding a giant turd.

The moment I saw it, I burst into uncontrollable laughter, completely disrupting Mrs. White's lecture.

"Ms. Henderson," she said, narrowing her eyes. "Is everything alright? Would you care to share with the class what's so funny?"

I quickly balled up the drawing in my palm and coughed. "No, ma'am. Sorry."

Behind me, I heard muffled laughter. I turned to see Eddie with his head down on his desk, shoulders shaking. I rolled my eyes, but I was smiling as I slipped the drawing into my folder.

I'd started doing that on Monday—saving all his little doodles—and I already had quite a few. Honestly, he was pretty talented.

"When do you want me to pick you guys up?" I asked as Mike and Dustin climbed out of the car on Friday afternoon.

"You don't need to," Dustin called back. "Mike's mom is picking us up later."

"Are you spending the night?"

"Yup!"

"Says who? You never asked me," I said, crossing my arms.

"I asked Mom," he replied, rolling his eyes like I was the one being difficult.

"Mom left two days ago on a business trip, and she's not gonna be back until next week! How exactly did you ask her?"

"Before she left. Duh."

I sighed. "Alright. Love you! Be safe. Same for you, Mike," I said, eyeing them both.

They rolled their eyes in unison and headed into the school for their Friday night DnD game.

"BOO!"

"AHHH!" I screamed, jerking away from the car door.

"Calm down, sweetheart," said a familiar voice, laughing.

I whipped around. "Munson! You need to stop doing that," I groaned, though I couldn't help but laugh too.

He leaned against the car, smirking. "What, me? I'm harmless."

"What are you doing out here? Aren't you supposed to be playing?"

"Yeah, but they can wait," he said with a shrug.

"So what's up? Besides DnD?"

"Nothing much. I'll probably just head home and chill for the rest of the night."

"Same," I said. "Dustin's at Mike's, my mom's gone all week, and Robin is... actually, I have no idea what Robin's doing."

"She seems like the type who'd just... talk through the worst possible situations."

I laughed. "She is. But that's why I love her."

"Eddie! What are you doing? C'mon!" someone yelled from the school doors. A silhouette waved at him impatiently.

"Hold on, man! I'm coming!" Eddie called back over his shoulder.

"Wait!" I stopped him, reaching into the center console. I pulled out a pack of gum and a pen, scribbling my number onto the wrapper before handing it to him.

"Call me if you need anything. Or if you just want to hang out. I'll probably be alone all weekend."

He took it, smiling with that familiar cheeky grin. "Thanks."

"You're welcome," I murmured.

He jogged off toward the building, and I watched him disappear through the doors before finally heading home.
