After a long week of school, juggling assignments with Robin, driving people around, and just being the best big sister I could be, I decided it was time to treat myself. Alone. I gave Dustin and Mike ten bucks to order a pizza for themselves after their D&D session and left without hesitation.
I grabbed my favorite tape—one I hadn't listened to in a while—and went on a quiet, solo night drive. It felt good to just let my thoughts drift while the road passed beneath me. The radio played softly, and I felt a rare sense of peace.
Eventually, I decided I'd used up enough gas for the night, so I pulled into a local burger joint. It was pretty popular because it sat right next to a busy bar. I didn't mind the noise—it was one of those places where people spilled in and out, laughing, talking loudly, and slamming back drinks.
Right as I placed my order, the door opened, and the bell chimed, followed by a flood of voices. I ignored them, paying for my food and finding a seat in the corner. I tried to start reading my book, but it had been so long since I actually had time to get into it, I was a little distracted.
I barely made it through the first page when a waitress brought my order to the table.
"Thank you," I smiled as she placed the tray down.
I popped a fry into my mouth, trying to get lost in the book again, when I suddenly heard someone shout from across the room.
"Bye, Munson!"
I looked up instinctively and saw Eddie, surrounded by a group of people—some I recognized from school, and some I didn't. The clatter of plates and laughter filled the air. A middle-aged man patted Eddie on the back as he left.
"Great show, you guys," he said loudly, and my curiosity peaked. A show?
I tried to go back to my book, but the distraction was too strong. Just as I took a bite of my burger, I heard a voice.
"Hey, Y/N."
I looked up, startled, and saw none other than Eddie standing right there, looking a little awkward. I really thought I'd go unnoticed tonight.
"Hey, Eddie," I greeted him, swallowing my bite. "What's up?"
He seemed to hesitate for a moment, standing by my table like he wasn't sure what to do. "Uh... You mind if I sit down?"
"Of course," I said, motioning to the empty seat across from me. "Have a seat."
"Thanks," he smiled, settling in.
"Fun night?" I asked, referring to the crowd of people that had just been around him.
"Yeah, me and the guys just had a show at the bar," he said, his pride shining through.
"A show?" I asked, intrigued. I had no idea Eddie played music.
"Yeah. Our band." He said it casually, but I could see the excitement in his eyes.
"You have a band?" I asked, surprised. "That's so cool."
"Yep. Corroded Coffin," he grinned, clearly proud of the name.
"Wow! That's awesome," I said, genuinely impressed. "How big was the crowd?"
"About four or five drunks," he shrugged with a grin, making me laugh. "You know, the usual."
"I would've watched if you'd told me," I said.
"I thought you'd be at the basketball game," he said, raising an eyebrow. "First game of the season, right?"
"Yeah..." I trailed off, not feeling very enthusiastic about it. "I don't really care for basketball games. But I did get invited." I shrugged. "Robin bailed tonight, anyway, to go out with Steve. They invited me, but I didn't feel like going out."
