A whoosh of wind brushing against my skin, and the smell of cats is what woke me up this very morning. Finally in Grade 12, the climax of school life.
My eyes flew open and darted towards Luna, my British shorthair baby. I scooped her into my hands, her fragile body being wrapped whole with only one of my hands. I brushed her hair with my fingertips and gave a little high-five with a finger onto her cute paw.
I rushed downstairs, very calmly though, almost dropping Luna. My father wasn't there, he was probably already at work, but my mother and little sister were.
"Congrats to my new final year high schooler and 5th grader!" exclaimed my Mum.
Mina giggled as I told Mum to calm down. She kissed our foreheads and handed us breakfast; waffles, syrup, strawberries... plus a little ice cream. I thanked her and gave Luna to Mina. She glared at me and left for her room.
Little sisters, always like this.
I also retreated to my room to go wash myself and pick my outfit to wear.
I grabbed my bag and waved to my mum, walking towards the garden where my bodyguard Hyunjin was waiting. During my last two years of high school, people always thought I had an affair with Hyunjin.
We both walked towards the car when Hyunjin started to talk. "So, ready for your last year in high school?"
I sighed and nodded to him, making him chuckle. "Why the long face? Are you sad?"
"No, it's just that I'm really going to miss everyone. Like, after this year, we're going to graduate and move on to university. Some of the people I've known may not be with me anymore if we don't get accepted into the same university, like Hyemi."
Hyemi's my childhood best friend, and we're as separable as superglue. Yes, not very separable. She's an 02 like me, and we spent almost all of the time together.
Hyunjin patted my head and said "Don't worry, you'll be fine. You're the smartest girl I know"
"Not my point, but ok." We both laughed and got into the car.
The streets were packed with cars, and I saw a guy waving a flag and saying "I'm getting out of high school, bitches!" Well, Hyunjin first pointed to him, but I'll take credit. I turned to my phone, where Hyemi was blowing it up with calls and messages. I answered her call and spoke with her.
📞 "Where in the world are you!?"
"The streets are jammed, I'm not at school"
📞 "Well, hurry up. Assembly's starting in 30 minutes"
"I'll be there in time"
📞 "Alright, see you"
I hung up and in no time, we were at school. I thanked Hyunjin and waved to him. That's when it started, the gossip. Girls started to whisper each other "Omg, look!"
"Oh, he's so hot. I wish I were her"
"Gosh, this girl isn't stopping.""Mind your business and get in the auditorium!"
I recognized that voice, my bestie Hyemi. Hyemi hung her arm around me, taking me to the auditorium, where the principal Mr. Jaeyoung was about to talk.
"Good morning, students. Welcome to your last year of high school. It has been a pleasure to assist and teach you along your journey to higher education. I am proud of each and every one of you, and I hope you will all continue to do well in the upcoming challenges you have coming your way."
Then, he went on about tips to get into good colleges and universities, how we should always believe in ourselves and stay strong, and some other stuff. We were dismissed to our first classes. Mines was Biology, and I was with Hyemi, so everything was well.
We went to our lockers that were next to each other, and Hyemi gasped suddenly. I looked at her in worry, but she picked up a letter and showed it to me.
I squinted at the letter that seemed to be a poem about.... me?
It said "To: Lee Minju, Class D"
I furrowed my brows and read the poem. Hyemi snatched the letter halfway through me reading it, and she assumed that it meant I had a secret admirer. I denied that and stuffed the poem inside my locker. I took my schedule, placed it in my Biology book and walked to class.

I watched as the two girls behind me kept bickering about that piece of paper.
"Hey Sunghoon, I think Minju has a secret admirer," Jake said.
I nodded in silence, a strangely negative feeling filling up my chest.
Minju's dad was my Dad's company HR Director, so I already knew her.
We were actually childhood best friends, but she never paid attention to me after a while. To anyone, really, except for her studies. She was the smartest at school but to be fair I did get quite lonely after she started to grow a little more distant from me.
We were also the richest, so we were shipped a lot. The only thing that stopped me from trying to have any contact with Minju was Lana, the school's bully.
She was always rivals with Minju from her point of view, but from Minju's, Lana was just a stupid bully. Lana was always envious of her beauty, titles, riches, and overall just her.
She was evidently behind her, enraging her. Also, the fact that all the boys focus on Minju and not her maddens her. I mean, I don't blame them, though I've never felt attracted to her. I just thought of her as future business mates, and close friends.
So long to the second thought.
"Yo, Sunghoon, you okay?" Jay asked, waving his hand in front of my eyes.
"Oooh, looks like Penguin's forming a crush~," Jake said, wiggling his eyebrows with Jay. I rolled my eyes and walked to Biology.
Inside, Minju and her friend sat together in the front row, while me and the boys sat behind them. Why does she still not remember me?
Mrs. Yuri started the attendance right after the bell rang, and I opened my biology book and skidded to the front.
