A message from an unknown number popped up on my phone during the locker passing period. I had my phone on Do Not Disturb during Physics, so I didn't get the message. As soon as Hyemi saw it, she immediately called the number. Damn, it could be a sasaeng of me or my dad.
"Hello?" said the voice on the other end, and I realized it was Sunghoon. I snatched the phone away from Hyemi and answered him.
"Hi Sunghoon. Sorry, I just wanted to know who had messaged me."
"It's ok. Bye."
He hung up and I glared at Hyemi. She shrugged and said "He seems like a nice guy."
I laughed and said "He's the most arrogant and ruthless boy ever. What do you mean nice?"
"I mean to you, Minju. He seems nice to you."
I shook my head and said "He rarely looks happy whenever I meet him."
Hyemi went off with Jake that was calling for her, and I stood there, watching Jay and Sunghoon arguing a mile away from Jake. Sunghoon seemed frustrated and kept putting a hand on his forehead. Jay was ranting about something, the only words I could hear was "dumb", "dangerous", and "jail". What in the world were they talking about?
I walked fast when I saw Sunghoon leaving Jay. He came from a corner and slightly smiled at me, his eyes looking mad and annoyed.
I smiled back and asked what the time was, and his eyes widened when he checked his watch. "Shit, it's 11: 15" he said in disbelief.
I gasped and ran with him, getting scolded by a passing teacher. We didn't care, though. We ran for our lives towards the Chemistry classroom. Sunghoon slammed the door open, having Ms. Mijoo flinch.
I put my hand on my chest, trying to catch breath.
Sunghoon put his hands on his knees and said "We're...here. Ms." I panted and added that we were present.
"Well, since you two are late and came together, you can be lab partners. We're experimenting with different solvents. Come in. Do you have your note book?"
Me and Sunghoon looked at each other and back at the teacher, shaking our heads. We forgot to bring them since we were in such a hurry. "Oh, right. Jake and Hyemi have your notebooks." Ms. Mijoo said, pointing to them waving our books.
We took our books and thanked them, turning to an empty table. Two tubes of solvent were there for us with some instructions and some salt, the solute. We put on our goggles, coat and gloves, Sunghoon reading the instructions and me doing the mixing.
"Alright, step one is to mix 2 teaspoons of solvent 1 with solvent 2" said Sunghoon. I did, and then Sunghoon said to pour in a tablespoon of salt. "Wait, no!" But before he could warn me, the experiment exploded.
I gasped, my face shield, goggles and coat completely covered in froth. My face wasn't covered in salty froth, thankfully.
"Oh god, I'm so so sorry. It was meant to be 1/4 of a tablespoon." I laughed at his face; he looked like Santa, having him glare at me.
"Oh dear, I thought you two were the best in class. Go to the bathroom and clean up." said Ms. Mijoo, disappointed.
We left to our own bathrooms and once we were done cleaning up, Sunghoon looked apologetically at me. "Look, I forgive you. We all make mistakes."
His face then slightly lightened up and he gave me a lazy grin. I tried to return it, though I did still feel moody.
"Mister Park and Miss Lee, you have some cleaning up to do." We both nodded and lazily walked over to our table. Jay, Jake, and Hyemi all came over to help us.
"Damn, Minju, what happened?" asked Hyemi.
"Sunghoon read out the salt amount incorrectly. That's how this happened." I said stealing a fake cold glance at Sunghoon while wiping the table with a sponge.
"I did that on accident. I thought you forgave me?" said Sunghoon angrily.
"Hey, it's fine. It was an accident." said Jay, hoping to clear the dark cloud floating over our heads.
Hyemi patted my back and continued to wipe the table. The bell rung and the students ran out for Snack time. The teacher shooed Jay, Jake and Hyemi out so we could the mess ourselves.
Hyemi mouthed a sorry to me before heading out with the two boys. I sighed and continued to clean to table when someone came into the room. Ugh, guess who it is.
"Oh wow, you've become a cleaner now?" said Lana, laughing with her minions. I exhaled and was about to throw a dirty, wet sponge at her when Sunghoon looked at me, shaking his head.
He put down his wipes and said to Lana, "Can't you just leave us alone."
Lana gasped fakely, saying "Sunghoon? How could you? You know how annoying that bitch is."
"Actually, I don't. She's the complete opposite of you," said Sunghoon, unamused.
How surprised could I get by him? I bit back a laugh and crossed my arms. Sunghoon took me by the shoulder and out of the classroom. There, he hid my body under his own by pushing me onto the wall, peeking at what Lana and her gang were doing.
I couldn't decide if I should blush or not, but then I covered my mouth as I saw Lana and her friends drawing vulgar pictures of the teacher and principal. Me and Sunghoon both looked at each other as if we shared the same brain and went to the principal office.
