TW: (kind of) Homophobia, hinted internalised homophobia
———————————————————————————
I've seen you at your ups and downs and I care about you either way. You could turn around and tell me you hate me and I would still be there for you. I want to be the one you go to celebrate your successes and morn your losses with. I want to be a source of comfort for you, a safe person, your person...

As Nancy raced back to the stolen van, she overheard the loud sound of Steve's voice giving some sort of ...pep talk?  Leaning up to the slightly ajar door, she still could only hear a few words here and there.
"Robin...deserve better...hey don't cry...look...maybe...straight...aren't worth it..."
Though the brunette wasn't entirely sure what had happened she concluded that there must of been some sort of heartbreak or betrayal.Acting as if she had just arrived, Nancy swung open the door causing Robin and Steve to jump in surprise. Sure enough, they were sat at the back of the vehicle, the girl attempting to subtly wipe away the few stray tears from her pink, puffy eyes.

" Am I ... interrupting something?" Asked Nance, looking them up and down and raising an eyebrow- though she immediately regretted her sarcastic tone as she saw the blonde shuffle further towards the wall and look around, embarrassed. For the rest of the journey, they sat in an excruciatingly tense silence with everyone too afraid to break it.

Later, in the bright and vivid field where they had stopped off to prepare their weapons for the grand fight, Nancy swiftly pulled her friend aside, walking her over towards the trees.

"Hey, look I'm sorry about earlier, if I'm honest I kind of heard your conversation earlier and... look I'm sorry about this guy, I don't know what happened but you can talk to me about it, or not, because, you know, I don't want to make you uncomfortable but-"

Robin had suddenly turned very pale, her gaze fixed on a spot behind Nancy's head and swallowed loudly. Something wasn't right. But still she played it off with a jokey, "Look whose rambling now!"

"But like seriously, you know I'm here right? And anyway, he definitely didn't doesn't deserve you!"

The girl opposite her let out a dark, cold laugh that sent a full on shiver down Nancy's spine.

"What's so funny? Did I say something-"

"He.This guy. They aren't a he, they're a she!"

There was a few beats of pure silence, the air felt tough and the wind seemed to stop in its tracks. She had never seen this girl more terrified - not even in the upside down when facing deadly attack after deadly attack!

" You....You're." Nancy paused "I'm sorry I need to go, I think Max needs my help."

" Nance wait I can-"

"I'll ...umm... see you-"

She didn't even finish her sentence before she got up without hesitation and rushed away. Though she could feel Robin's heartbroken eyes burning a hole in her back and heard her sink to the floor, Steve rushing over to her aid, she did not look back.Hands shaking, entire body shaking, she put her whole weight onto the nearest tree, the bark carving lines into her hands. What was wrong with her? What had she done?

A/N:
Well that was definitely a less joyful chapter, let's just say it will probably get worse before it gets better...
