But I'm here in your doorway and I just wanted you to know

And now, look at you, you have everything you deserve, a committed relationship, an acceptance letter to a prestigious French university and a beautiful apartment in a grand old building in the outskirts of Paris - a whole new life ahead of you. And I don't want to take that from you- this is your dream after all - but I love you. I love you more than anything on this damn earth and I will never forgive myself if I let you go without at least saying something. Because you are the most incredible girl I know, I adore your untamed hair and your unique style and your random rants and your comforting hugs and everything about you.

Je t'aime pour toujours

Yours always,
Nance

"Nancy Freakin' Wheeler" Screamed a furious voice down the phone, causing Nance to almost jump out of her skin.

"Jeez Steve, it's literally seven in the morning,I can't do this ri-"

"Don't you dare hang up the phone!"

Not wanting to argue at this time of day, she lifted back up the phone, twiddling the thin wire between her fingers.

"So, what's this all about?"

"You know what this is about..."
He was right, of course she did.

"Look, Harrington, I don't know how this involves you - it clearly wasn't working out and we just did the sensible thing-"

"Absolutely nothing you did was sensible. You should have seen how Robs' face lit up when your name was mentioned or heard the endless talks I was subjected to about 'What the incredible Nancy Wheeler had done that day' - she cared about you so much. And you left her at her worst moment, when she had no where to go and no family to fall back on and, I don't know what's going through your head or what's happening in your life but that was pretty cowardly. And then you ignore her calls, offer no support and just leave her pretty much alone. And worst of all, she blames every single bit of it on herself so, if you don't do some-"

She slammed the phone down, a few tears sliding down her face as she tried to take deep breaths but failed. It felt as if her throat was closing up. Shaking, she ran up to her room and slammed the door, barely registering her mothers anxious shout of her name.

So here she was, half a month later, lifting her pen off the tear stained paper, re reading the words she had written a hundred times. And here she was, all dressed up to go say farewell to her fellow graduates as they all split off and went their separate ways. Nancy honestly could not care less that she wouldn't interact with most of these people more than once over the next twenty years - infact, she was relieved. Apart from for Robin. She knew that girl had moved on, found a new love to build a life with. Since Hawkins was a particularly tiny town, she had witnessed countless of their dates, even though, since this place was so hateful, they had attempted to hid it- but Nancy knew. She wanted it to be her. She wanted to travel the world with Robin Buckley, settle down and grow old together but, due to her stupidity, she would probably never get that.

At least now she could get advice from Steve - it was his idea to write this letter.

"Nancy, darling it's time to go."

Feeling nauseous with fear, the brunette approached Robin.
"Hey, Robs, I ...uh- have something for you. Please just read it when you have the chance and you could um... call me?" God she had never wanted to punch herself in the face more than at that moment.

" Umm... Sure" nodded the other girl awkwardly, before wrapping her arm across Vickie's shoulder, making Nance wince.

Now she just had to wait.
