And those short but incredible flashes of joy we experienced over those weeks could last me a whole entire lifetime.

Nancy would definitely say that summer was one she wouldn't ever forget - even if she tried. It was a myriad of delicate memories, of unimaginable experiences, it was a summer full of her girlfriend.

Most mornings began with Nancy waking up early, helping her mother with a few errands. Providing that Robin didn't have a shift at Family video or any other plans, she would give her girlfriend a quick call to let her know she was on her way. When she arrived, the brunette would politely chat with Robin's parents - though she wasn't particularly fond of them for, throughout all the family dinners she had sat in on, they were constantly criticising their daughter, mostly on her lack of friends and a boyfriend. Her heart broke every time she saw the poor girl beside her's smile drop as she was scolded for how 'weirdly she walked' or that 'she was too antisocial and was lucky she had a friend at all'. While this summer was largely happy, she could still remember all the nights of comforting Robs and even the time she stayed at Nance's for five consecutive days during a particularly heated argument. But they both chose to put this aside and focus of the time they had left in this wretched town (which still held a place in their heart no matter how quickly they wanted to escape it) before they went off to college.

One of the first of their outings was a little picnic in the woods. As much as they tried to ignore it, they knew it wouldn't be safe for them to be properly seen together in Hawkins, due to the horrible times they were living in. Due to this, they tended to spend time in more secretive areas. As the morning breeze fluttered through the shivering leaves, they tried to put down their blanket -which resulted in them falling onto the dew-soaked grass half tangled in said cloth. They drank sparkling lemonade and talked for hours - and could have for many more, it never got old. Robin teased her partner as she told her most mortifying tales from high school and she silently wished she had met her girlfriend earlier. It only ended as they began to stargaze, realising how late it was. In a fit of giggles, they rushed home and snuck into the house. As Nancy called her mum to let her know she was staying over, Robin dramatically danced around the room while  listening to her Walkman and pulling ridiculous faces at the brunette as she stifled her laughter in order to not wake Robin's parents, who were just along the corridor.
There was another special day where they snuck onto the roof at sunset or the one night where they scared Steve half to death by turning up on his door step in crappy, two dollar Halloween masks. And there was also that beach trip where the blonde threw Nancy right into the ocean and, once she had gotten revenge but sticking seaweed in her hair, they spent hours collecting sea shells and coloured sea glass to make each other cute little necklaces which they both refused to take off or the countless nights they crept out and went for nighttime swims in the lake, the serene moon proudly shining down on them and embracing them in her light.

But of course any good thing always comes to its demise and theirs was particularly devastating. They came crashing down one humid night.

" Hey Nance, do you wanna come over?" Asked her girlfriend as she picked up the phone. "Steve is here ... but he is leaving soon - of course his mom would kill him if he slept at a girls house- and well... my parents are out." She stopped for a second. Why could Nancy just about hear soft crying coming from the other side? "I just- I don't won't to be alone right now."
