-Zylith-
I sat on the chair, dryly looking at mom who was trying on a bunch of wedding dresses. Don't get me wrong, she did look good. It's just that, I didn't feel so good.
I didn't know if it was because the feeling I felt when I first heard about the wedding came back or because I just wasn't doing well physically.
Mom had noticed how pale I had been looking and constantly asked me if I was okay.
"I'm fine mom, stop asking me the same question over and over again," I repeatedly answered.
"Zylith," a voice snapped me back to reality. I looked up and saw that it was mom.
"Are you alright hunny? I have been calling but you didn't reply," she complained.
"Yes I am alright mom. I just feel a bit thirsty," I lied. "That dress looks good on you by the way. You should take it," I took a look at her from head to toe.
She flashed me one of those beautiful smiles of her's having gotten the compliment she wanted.
"Thank you," she smiled. "Please pack this one for me," she said to the saleslady, pointing at the dress.
"We can grab some lunch from here. Where do you want us to eat from?" she asked.
"Anywhere you want. Even at a restaurant here at the mall. I don't mind," I replied.
We were about to start eating when I felt a bit nauseous and decided to excuse myself just in case I had to puke. Again. I went to the public bathroom and waited a bit just in case the feeling came again but it didn't. I went back and started eating.
"You seriously don't look good," mom said, with a mouthful of food.
"I'm good mom, just swallow your food and quit embarrassing me," I started eating.
I was honestly worried about myself. All the symptoms of pregnancy were becoming visible day by day but I was scared to buy a pregnancy test. I was afraid of finding out the one thing that would turn my world upside down. I preferred living in denial. Perhaps it was my mind playing tricks on me.
We finished eating and headed to the car. One of mom's drivers was going to come back later to pick up the dress. Mine too.
I was about to open the car door when I felt dizzy. It was as if my whole body stopped cooperating with itself. The last thing I remember was me calling for my mom before I blacked out.
-Claire Williams-
I had just unlocked the car and was about to get in the driver's seat when I heard Zylith call for me. I looked up from my phone and noticed that she wasn't anywhere to be seen through the car's windows. I let go of the door handle, rushing to the other side of the car.
"Zylith!" I exclaimed, looking at her unconscious body lying on the hard ground. Two random people helped me get her into the car and rushed her to the hospital.
I stood at the door of the room where she was being attended to, anxiously waiting for the doctor. I did notice a lot of absurd changes in Zylith's behavior the past few weeks. She looked pale, ate food she would never eat before, had mood swings and she usually vomited. Especially after eating spicy food.
The last thing made my jaw drop. I hoped she was just sick. I strongly hoped it wasn't what I thought it was.
"Claire," a voice called. I turned around, my eyes meeting with Daniel's.
"You came."
"Yes. I started off immediately you called. How is she?" he asked.
"I don't know, the doctor hasn't come out yet," I spoke, trembling in fear.
"Claire. You are crying," Daniel came closer, wiping my tears away with his hand. I hadn't even realized that I was crying.
"Don't worry she will be fine," he assured me. I nodded, resting my head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around me and patted my back while I cried.
The doctor eventually came out and asked us to follow him to his office. I wasted no time and followed him to his office.
"How is she?" I asked.
"Ms. Williams," the doctor looked up at me as he took a seat. "Please relax and take a seat."
"How do you expect me to sit down and relax when my baby is on a hospital bed sick of God knows what?" I raised my voice.
"Claire calm down and take a seat," Daniel led me to one of the visitor's seats. I sat down and stared at the doctor waiting for my reply.
"Zylith fainted today because she hasn't been eating well. It also seems like she is stressed about something," he started.
"Ms. Williams. What I am going to tell you now is something you wouldn't like to hear but uhmm," he hesitated.
"Zylith is 5 weeks pregnant."
I covered my mouth with both of my hands as tears gushed out of my eyes without warning.
"My baby," I cried. "She only turned 18, she's still a baby. How is she supposed to raise a baby?"
"Zylith what have you done," I cried.
"Ms. Williams. You should take it easy on her. She doesn't need to be stressed right now and make sure there's always someone with her until she's stable. She might try to get rid of the pregnancy and harm herself in the process," the doctor spoke.
Daniel stood by my side the whole time. He patted my back, telling me comforting words that all sounded muffled to me.
All I could think about was the night she never came home and the hickey on her neck. I closed my eyes to prevent the flashbacks but that didn't help one bit.
*2 hours later*
-Zylith-
I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. I was in a white room, my right hand cannulated. Colorless liquid passing through a tube from a drip to my hand. I felt so exhausted that I failed to move my body for a moment.
I noticed a figure sitting besides the bed. I noticed that it was Judy as my vision got clearer. She was asleep.
"Judy," I called.
"Judy," she finally woke up and looked at me, faintly smiling at me. She then stood up and left the room coming back with a nurse who did a quick check up on me before leaving the room.
"What happened?" I asked. Judy looked away, not being able to have direct eye contact with me. Her attitude towards me was extremely cold and distant.
"Thank God you finally woke up," was the only thing she said to me. I stayed silent waiting for an explanation for what was going on but none came.
"I have gone to buy a bottle of water, be right back," was all she said to me before leaving.
Mom came in a while later and avoided having eye contact with me as well. Her eyes were extremely red and swollen. I couldn't help but ask what was going on but I got no reply just like before.
"Get some rest," was all she said, covering me with the blanket.
I had given up on asking them what was wrong with me and just decided to find out on my own later. I looked away trying not to feel guilty for what was happening. Deep down my heart, I knew the truth but didn't want to accept it.
"Zylith. What happened that night five weeks ago?"
My heart dropped when I heard that question. I immediately knew what was wrong with me. The thing I feared the most had come to pass. I stayed silent. What could I do? Was I supposed to tell her boyfriend's son got me pregnant?
