Ashley Shepard, Forgotten Hero

Chapter 21

For the two weeks Liara and Rose have been on the Citadel waiting for Ashley to wake up. I am doing stupid missions, doing stuff to save our stupid galaxy. The only time I am out of my cabin is when we have to do missions and such.

I check my terminal for the tenth time in thirty minuets, nothing. The clicks of my shoes echo through my empty cabin as I pace up and down. My guilt is building as there is still no answer from anyone on the Citadel.

"Commander, the Asari councilor wants to speak with you."

I lock up my emotions and went to the comm room, the Asari councilor tells me to meet her at the Citadel as soon as possible. Ugh, I want a break. We just retook Rannoch and unites the Quarians and the Geth, after a three hundred year war. But sadly I don't get breaks, especially during this war.

"Joker set a course for the Citadel, and no, Ashley isn't awake yet."

I had a feeling he would ask if we were going there to because she woke up, I hate saying that she isn't awake.

My terminal brings and I run over to it, it is from the hospital. A few tears run down my face as I read the email. Garrus walks into my cabin and he sees me on the flirt crying.

"Kathryn, it's about Ashley isn't it. Kathryn, look at me. What's wrong?"

I couldn't even put into words what I read in the email, so j just pointed at the email. I guess after he reads it he pulls me into a hug, and whispers comforting words in my ear.

"Kathryn, don't give up on her. She's a tough girl, when we go to the Citadel we can visit her."

"We're at the Citadel Commnader."

I guess I've been crying for awhile, or It took me awhile to read that email. I clean up my face and get a ride to the Embassies. I meet the councilor and she tells me that a Prothean artifact is on Thessia and might tell us where the Catalyst is. I really want to lunch her but that would end badly for everyone.

"You ready to go to the hospital Shepard?" I nod my head and we take the elevator. All of my crew, except EDI, is already at the hospital. I walk into her room and she has flowers around her and she looks peaceful.

There is a boy sitting on a chair next to her, holding her hand and crying.

"Ashley please wake up, I never meant what I said. Please wake up, without you I will be lost and my life won't be worth living. I only love you, I never loved Jack. Please wake up Ash, I love you forever and always."

His dark brown hair reminds me of Kaiden, could this be... This is Kaiden Alenko of Ashley's time. This boy broke her, or at least broke her heart.

"Why are you here? Do you realize how much you hurt her? After you left her, she changed as a person."

He turns around and looks at me with guilt, anger and sadness in his eyes.

"You don't think I know this! I blame myself for all of this happening, if she dies I don't know what I would do. I would probably die," he cries. He really loves her, and it's my fault she's like this.

"They want me to...."

"Commander they want you to do what?"

"They want me to take her off life support, they say we're just letting her suffer."

"You can't!" He yells at me.

"Kaiden, I can't have her suffer."

"If you kill her I will die Shepard!"

"Kaiden, I know you love her but your being selfish."

He slaps me. I realize what in saying.

"Kaiden I don't want her to due either, she's family and it is my fault she's like this. I made the wrong call during the coup," I whisper.

He slaps me again, "How could you do that? What was the call? Leave her to drown while you chase after some guy?"

"We crashed Kaiden, we couldn't have helped her!"

"So what? Send one person back and bring the other with you, it's that simple!"

"STOP!" A girl screams. I turn to the hospital bed and Ashley is sitting up and has anger in her eyes.

"IT'S MY FAULT!" Then she collapses and doctors rush in.

"She just used up a lot of energy, she's going to make it."

I leave the room with tears of joy running down my face, the rest of my crew thought she must've died because they are frowning.

"Why the frowns? She woke up guys, she's asleep now but she'll live."

They all stand up and have the biggest smiles on their faces, well except Garrus, he can't really smile. He pulls me into a kiss and the rest in hugs. I can't believe that she'll be fine. Now I can make up all the mistakes I made that got her hurt, and that's a lot.
