THE NEW FRONTIER

October 2nd, 2010

I rested my head on Nick's shoulder as we were in the car. It felt so nice just being around him. My heart wouldn't stop pounding. Heavy metal was playing in the car. Madison turned it off as Nick rested his hand on mine. We stopped infront of some gate. A soldier walked up to the door

"Joe. Man, who'd you piss off to draw guard again, huh?" Troy asked

"Your father wants to talk to you" Joe said

"Jake already talk to him?" Troy asked

"Jake ain't here. That's the thing, he ain't been here since he left. He's overdue" Joe said

"All right, all right, get out. Get out of the truck" Troy said

"What?" Madison asked

"Get out of the truck and wait outside. Now, come on, get out. Joe, watch them" Troy said as we all got out of the car. The three of us watched as Troy and his pal continued on through the gates

"Close it" Joe said as we were stuck on the other side. The gates closed

"They're not here. Let's just backtrack and find them" Nick said

"Backtrack to where? We don't know where they are. You don't know where you're going" Madison said

"Better than goddamn waiting" Nick said

"No, it's not. Y/n, tell him" Madison said

"No comment" I said. Madison groaned

"We leave, get lost. They show up, then what? They have to go find us. Overreacting now could get us killed" Madison said

"Okay, and what if they don't show? Right? What if it just us three? What's the play then?" Nick asked

"Hug your mother" Madison told Nick

"What?" Nick asked

"Just do it. Do it" Madison said as she smiled at the guy staring at us. They hugged

"Where'd you get that?" Nick asked her

"Made a stop last night. Glove box in the fuel truck. We'll bring our family together. Take what we need, and stop anyone who gets in our way" Madison said. Me and Nick looked at each other

Me and Nick were sitting down as Madison stood. They still hadn't let us in

"Armed patrol at the gate here. Perimeter watch on the ranch, but most of these folks are civilians" Madison said

"Well, we are not civilians. Okay, we do not need this place. We don't need these people" Nick said
