I'm Here

chapter 30

He took me back upstairs after having a frightening conversation with me. I was scared to death.
What if he gets caught?
What if they saw?
I'm just scared now. After all that has happened. I just found out that the boy I'm living with killed someone. That scares me. I know it was for me and him, but it's crazy. I know that smell. Rubbing alcohol. He was probably soaking the gun in it. Great. The bullets, probably in the trash can. Not good either. He made sure that everything inside my body was working normally. Everything was good so far. He checked my stomach.
"No more bleeding," he said, "it's all stitched up. Good to go. In a few weeks I'll take them out."
I nodded and he left the room. He knew I was mad at him. He didn't even try to put up a fight with me. What he did was wrong. Yes, it was to help us. He did not have to kill him though. That was unnecessary, we could have just called the police. Oh, never mind. Then we would be put in foster care. That would be horrible. We're only 16 and 17 years old. To young to be considered 'adults'. That night Aaron didn't come up to sleep with me. Now I was upset. I kiss him. His arms around my waist. His head on my chest. I love everything about him: his smile, intelligence (sometimes), caringness, eyes. I miss him now, a lot. I was scared.
Would he hurt himself?
I was laying in bed. Thinking. I picked up my phone and texted him.
Me: you awake?
Him: yes
Me: can you come up with me?
Him: you're mad at me though.
Me: I know and I'm sorry. I miss having you up here though. It isn't the same without you here.
Him: yeah. I'll be up in a few minutes baby.
I smiled when I saw that. I set my phone down. A few seconds later the door nob turned and he walked in. He laid next to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. Then he pulled me closer and kissed me.
"Goodnight baby," he whispered.
"Goodnight," I smiled.
