Chuuya and I exited the building. I begrudgingly followed him around, I was still half asleep. "Where are we even going?" I mumbled out, stretching my arms above my head.
"To beat some people up." Chuuya replied, he was a few feet in front of me and didn't even bother looking back.
"Why?" I questioned, trying my best to keep up with him. For someone so short, he walked fast. Then again, I was even shorter than him, so I guess I can't really say anything.
"Because, the boss said so." Chuuya said, as we reached a fancy looking black car. He stopped and turned around to look at me
I sighed, "You are infuriating." He was starting to piss me off with his cryptic answer bullshit. I was not having it.
"Yeah, yeah." He waved his hand dismissively and leaned up against the car. "Now listen, we're taking my car and you're not gonna touch anything. If you do, I'll kill you."
"Oh please." I rolled my eyes, as if I was going to ruin his car at all. I'm not one to ruin things on purpose, unless they deserve it. And although Chuuya has been getting on my nerves today, I wasn't about to destroy his car.
"I'm serious." He stated crossing his arms. I rolled my eyes again and mirrored him.
"What? You want me to cross my heart? Pinky promise?" I asked condescendingly. Chuuya narrowed his eyes at me. "Fine. I won't touch anything."
"Good, now get in." He stood up and opened the passenger door for me.
"Such a gentleman." I teased, getting into the car. He scoffed and closed the door behind me. The interior of the car, was black leather with red accents. It was very clean and the technology looked a lot fancier than any I've ever seen. Chuuya had come around the other side and gotten in the car. I watched him put his seatbelt on and put the keys in the ignition, but he didn't start the car.
"Seatbelt." He said. I sighed, but complied. Only once my seatbelt was buckled did he start the car, and we were off down the road. Chuuya was a surprisingly good driver and I was not expecting that.
I rolled down the window, wanting some fresh, cold air to try and wake myself up some more. As we sped down the road, the wind whipped through my hair and stung my face. Something about it though, made me feel at home. I leaned my head against the window sill and let the wind brush across my face.
We sat in quietly most of the ride, the wind as the only thing to break the silence. Chuuya didn't seem to be one to socialize much and I don't blame him, I'm not one for socializing either. We continued driving for maybe another twenty minutes before we reached the docks. Chuuya parked the car on the side of the street and turned to me. I rolled up the window and turned to give him my attention.
"Since this is your first official job, I'll let you take the lead, and if you get into trouble I will step in." He explained.
"Great, are you gonna tell me what exactly the job is now?" I questioned.
"I was getting there." He sighed, and pulled out a picture from his pocket. It was a tall, built, bald man, wearing a suit and sunglasses. "This man is our target. Boss said he wanted him dead, so do what you will."
"And what did he do?" I asked, looking back up at Chuuya, who put the picture away.
"Boss, didn't say. Just said, he wanted him dead." Chuuya shrugged.
"Got it." I said, unbuckling my seatbelt and exiting the car. As soon as I got out, I started scanning faces, trying to pinpoint the target. We were near the Red Brick Warehouse, and it was early in the day. Many people were out and about, doing shopping, touristing, or whatever normal people did during the day. It would be easy to blend in here. I began walking toward where people were congregating.
"Where are you going?" Chuuya half shouted at me. I whipped around to look at him, confused. He had gotten out of the car and was peaking over the roof.
"What?" I spat back. "I'm going to do my job." I turned back around and continued walking, shaking my head. I heard Chuuya sigh, exasperated and then a car door slam. Chuuya caught up with me and we walked side by side.
"What exactly is your plan here?" He mumbled.
"Gather information, assess the situation, carry out the deed, get lunch." I listed off. I continued to scan the crowd looking for our target. I looked a Chuuya a moment, he was giving me a dirty look. "What?"
"This isn't some big mission, just a one time thing. I don't see why we can't just kill him now." Chuuya said.
"Well, we have to find him first. Right? Unless you happen to know where he is." I poked him in the shoulder. He swatted my hand away.
"Fine." He muttered. By this time we had reached the crowd and were weaving our way through the people. 'If I were someone who had crossed the Port Mafia where would I be hiding?' I asked myself. Right in plain sight.
I scanned the crowd a bit more and I had caught sight of the target standing in a line for some shop. I smacked Chuuya's arm and nodded in the target's direction. Chuuya nodded, also seeing him. We began to approach. The target was shifting on his feet, nervous, he knew he was in trouble with the mafia, I could tell. I've been around people who were, it didn't end well for them. He was looking around at the crowd and eventually he caught sight of Chuuya and I heading straight for him. That's when he took off running. "Shit!" I shouted, breaking into a sprint after him. "Chuuya, cut him off!" I shouted back at him.
"Don't tell me what to do!" Chuuya shouted back, but he did as I said anyways and began running the other way around to try and cut him off, wherever he was running to. I was easily keeping pace with this guy, if anything I was almost catching up to him, when suddenly he sprinted down an alleyway and I hoped Chuuya saw what happened, so he could cut him off.
I took off down the alley as well, but as soon as I turned the corner I didn't see anyone. Moments later Chuuya came running down the other side. "Where did he go?" He asked.
"I don't know I lost him down here." I said, walking toward Chuuya. Suddenly I was grabbed from behind, a gun touching my temple.
"Move and she dies." A man's voice said. Chuuya froze, I could see on his face he was thinking about his options. I was also trying to think of a way out of this.
"Go ahead. Do it then." He said, standing up straight.
"Chuuya!" I shouted at him.
"What? He won't do it." Chuuya was just taunting this man, who had a gun to my head, ready to shoot.
"You think I won't?" The man said.
"Nah. You won't do it. Because if you do, I will mutilate you." Chuuya said darkly, taking a step toward us.
"I said don't move." The man, had turned the safety off now. I squeezed my eyes shut. 'I'm not about to die in some back alley because of Chuuya.' I thought to myself.
That's when I activated my ability. I created a black hole in the ground beneath us, and one to let us back out just a few feet away. I had caught the man off guard and he let go of me. When we dropped back to the ground, I landed on my feet and the man staggered a bit, which gave me just enough time to smack the gun from his hand and pull out my own.
I aimed it at him and pulled the trigger. A second later he was on the ground in a pool of blood.
"What the fuck." Was all Chuuya could say.
