Dazai and I were easily able to slip away from the battle. Almost no one noticed we were gone, and those who did, did not come looking for us.
Dazai and I took to the streets of Yokohama in search of places were Chuuya and Elisabeth could have gone. We stopped by shops and restaurants, looking in through windows. We didn't spot them anywhere. We searched for hours, through the streets, trying to pick places they might have gone to.
"You know, this is something I would expect out of Chuuya, but Ellie..." Dazai said softly as we came to a stop at the end of a sidewalk near the docks.
"Honestly, she seems like the unpredictable type, so I'm not surprised." I replied, dryly, leaning up against a railing that looked out onto the sea. I was starting to get annoyed. We searched almost the entire damn city. I sighed and Dazai came to join me leaning over the railing. "How are we supposed to find people that don't want to be found?"
"It's been done before... you're a good example of that." Dazai said half chuckling.
"Not funny." I said smacking Dazai's arm, even though it was kind of funny.
"Wanna take a dip in the ocean?" He asked staring out at the sea.
"Is this your way of asking me to commit suicide with you?" I questioned, watching the water ripple with the soft breeze.
"Is that a yes?" He leaned over the railing a bit. I grabbed his coat.
"No." I said sternly, he shook his head.
"You're no fun." He said, as I let go of his jacket. I stuck my tongue out at him.
I turned to the ocean and watched the sun's reflection dance across the water. Light glinted and shifted in the waves. It was beautiful.
"They're bound to come back eventually right? If we don't find them..." I said softly. Watching as the sun was starting to set, I was getting worried. Even if Chuuya was being a piece of shit, him and I were still partners and I wanted him to come back... So I could tell him to his face what a jerk he was.
I'm sure Dazai was worried too. I didn't know much about the girl he was with and from what I know about her she's kind of a bitch, but he seems to care about her a lot. I'd hate for something that makes him happy to disappear...
"They could have gotten in trouble... and need our help..." Dazai replied quietly. I'd thought about that, it was possible they'd gotten into some kind of trouble, but the two of them can handle themselves.
I sighed, "Shall we keep looking then?" He nodded in response.
I pushed away from the railing and began walking along the concrete path, beside the ocean. Dazai quickly fell into step beside me. We walked along the pier, the ocean and our footsteps, the only sounds breaking the silence.
"Where to?" I asked, half to myself, half to Dazai. Neither of us had any clue where they might have gone, especially since we'd already searched most of the city.
"I have a place we can check..." He answered.
"Lead the way." I gestured in front of me, for him to take the lead. He started walking the same direction we were headed. I followed behind him. We walked past the the piers and were headed for the tourist spots in Yokohama. We approached the Royal Park Hotel and stopped outside the doors.
"Here? Why?" I questioned.
Dazai was silent for a moment before he turned to me. "This was where I took Ellie on our first date. This is the last place I can think of." He responded quietly.
I turned my head to look at the building and sighed. "Alright, let's give it a shot." I said. We entered the building together and went straight for the front desk.
"How can I help you today?" The woman at the desk asked, looking up from her computer as we approached.
"We were wondering if you'd seen a couple of people come in here today. Our friends went missing and we're looking for them." Dazai explained.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe I can help what do they look like?" She said, giving us her full attention.
"One of them is a woman with dark red hair and blue eyes, freckles, kinda short. The other is a man with orange red hair and blue eyes, also... short..." Dazai describing Chuuya and Elisabeth was funny to me, especially because he called both of them short. If they were short, what did he think of me?
"Ah, that sounds familiar, they sound unique... Can I have their names? Maybe they checked into a room..." She hummed turning back to the computer, she typed something quickly and then waited for an answer.
"Elisabeth Cassidy and Chuuya Nakahara." Dazai answered. We watched her type their names into her computer. As she was doing that I looked around the lobby, watching people walk around with their suitcases, on their phones, people with screaming children...
I turned around looking through the lobby when, by chance, I spotted two redheads passed out in the back of a black car. My eyes went wide as I recognized them. Elisabeth and Chuuya.
I took off in a sprint. I crashed through the doors and out onto the street. I caught sight of the vehicle speeding down the road. I ran hard and fast trying to catch it. I heard Dazai shouting behind me, but I didn't stop, I couldn't lose this car. They were in there and I could see them. They were in trouble. I had to help.
I tried so hard to keep up with the car, but it was a car and I was a human trying to keep up with it... Then I remember that I could literally teleport anywhere I wanted. I quickly activated my ability and tried to time it so that I would land on top of the car. And I had timed it perfectly, I landed straight on top of the car. I took the driver by surprise and caused him to swerve on the road. I didn't think this through.
The man was driving swiftly, he collected himself and realized what happened. I watched his face twist into a sadistic smile as he stepped on the gas. I tried to keep my balance on the car as we sped down the road. People were laying on their horns all around us, but I was trying to focus on not falling off and dying. I was holding on for dear life on the hood of a car. What a life this is.
I had an idea, and I hoped it would work. I swung my whole body weight into the front of the window, jumping on it. The glass started cracking. I pulled back and tried again. It cracked more. One last time and the glass broke. The driver swerved across the road again. I almost lost my grip on the car, but I was able to pull myself up.
I placed a portal inside the car, beneath Chuuya and Elisabeth and the other on the side of the road. I watched as they fell through and landed on the concrete. I hoped Dazai was following and would find them. "You're gonna regret that little girl." The driver said.
"I never regret anything." I responded, staring him straight in the face. He just smiled again in response and we sped up again. I almost lost my balance on the car again, but I held on tight.
Then there was a crash. Then there was water. Then there was nothing.
