The big fight solidified Shoto's decision in going to visit his mother. He had taken a few days off from his research, his mind not in the best head-space for studying, and sent a few letters to and from the hospital to arrange his visit. That same weekend he was on the Hogwarts Express back to London with Katsuki, who had brought along for moral support.
The ride seemed to fly by, and after a quick stop at a cafe for coffee to wake them up, they were signing themselves in at the reception desk of St Mungo's. Midoriya had told him that his mother was located in the private ward at the east wing of the hospital, an area specifically for long-term patients. He was very happy that Shoto was coming to visit his mother, and emphasised that she was very much looking forwards to him visiting.
They reached the third floor on the east wing and found room 073. The walls were white and the door a soft grey, his mother's name written on the metal plaque. At the sight of the cursive writing a stone dropped in his stomach, and now this definitely felt like a bad idea. Taking a step back, he tried to take some deep breaths to calm down, to push away the itching around his eye.
"You'll be fine, Sho." assured Bakugou. "I mean, I'm here and I'm pretty awesome so it'll be fine."
"Yeah." Shoto replied, voice strained. He nodded, trying to reassure himself that this was fine.
"Hey, look at me." Bakugou sounded a lot softer, and Shoto turned to face him. "You heard what Deku said, right? She can't wait to see you. And I think she'll be very happy that you've turned out to be so great."
"Really?"
"Really."
"... Okay, let's go."
Shoto knocked on the door thrice, and a second later turned the handle and pushed the door open. A wide panelled window met his eyes, letting in bright rays of sunshine to warm up the white room. The bed was made with a soft grey blanket folded on top, and there was a desk with a fresh bouquet of daffodils in a light blue vase.
By the window was a rocking chair, and in it sat the most beautiful woman Shoto had ever seen. Long grey hair, smooth to sight and shut, sat gently around her shoulders, her grey eyes like a clear sky after a storm; they dazzled in the morning sunlight. Her hands sat folded in her lap, and she hummed softly to herself, the calming melody settling his rapid heartbeat. The moment seemed to last forever, and Shoto wished to capture it in a photograph.
The woman noticed their presence at last, and turned to them with a smile on her face. It dropped the moment she saw the two males, and the dread in the Gryffindor's chest crawled up once more, but her eyes soon widened and glistened with tears ready to be shed.
"Shoto?" she asked, her voice hesitant and fragile as if she wasn't sure whether he was real.
"Hello mother."
"Oh, my dear boy!" she stood up, her frail body standing strong. But Shoto rushed over just in case she fell, and was pulled into a strong embrace that he slowly returned. "Shoto, I've missed you."
"I missed you too." his voice cracked, and he forced away his tears. He noticed she still faintly smelled of Alyssums, and the longing he had suppressed for so many years erupted. "I- I'm so sorry, for everything. I didn't- I never meant-"
He was cut off by a gentle hand running through his hair, and another coming up to cup his cheek; the faint coolness helped him relax.
"None of this is your fault Shoto. I'm sorry for what I have done, but I am healing and resting here, and we can move forwards together, okay?"
"Okay."
They hugged a moment longer before Shoto remembered Bakugou was also with them. When he pulled away from the hug he saw his boyfriend respectfully standing in the doorway looking out into the hallway, wanting them to have a private moment to themselves. He smiled a little and went over to grab his hand, giving an assured look to the blond before taking him over to his mother.
