-The Leonin people revere their dead and will continue honoring them and praying to them long after they have passed. Leonin mummify their dead and inter them in a city dedicated to holding their deceased called Cities of the Dead
Burial Process: The Leonin use a complicated process that lasts 30 days.
Step 1- The corpse spends 9 days in a cedar casket filled with concentrated salt.
Step 2- On the 10th day the body is removed from the salt and coated with a clear, gel-like resin derived from a native tree. This process takes 2 days for the gel to be applied and set. When it does it becomes waterproof and semi-flexible, sealing the body and preserving it.
Step 3- There is a 9-day period of ritualistic praying and mourning. 3 days for the local Elders and Spirit Guides, 3 Days for the immediate family, and 3 for friends and acquaintances.
Step 4- A day is spent dressing the deceased in their finest clothes and (if a warrior) armor.
Step 5- The process is completed with a 9 day party/feast that is hosted by the deceased. These Interment Dinners usually include a lot of eating, drinking, dancing, and lots of impromptu speeches and toasts. The deceased will be posed seated in the place of honor as if hosting, and the guests bring gifts in the form of small jewels, gold, trinkets, and ritualistic daggers that will be interred with the body.
Step 6- At the last day of the party at the end of the day, the guests accompany the deceased in a funeral procession to their final resting place in one of the Cities of the Dead.
