Kora's POV

I didn't ask where he was going this time. I didn't ask what he meant before he walked away.

Honestly, I didn't want to know.

I felt the warm prickle of tears begin to form behind my eyes as he walked away, turning his back on me.

I kept my feet still no matter how much I wanted to followed him. I kept the tears in, no matter how much I wanted to let them fall. I kept my screams in, no matter how much it hurt to feel my heart break.

Damon asked me over and over again what happened or what he said to me, but I couldn't tell him. I couldn't speak. My heart hurt, but I blamed it on my still sore wound.

My wolf stayed silent. She didn't speak. I didn't speak.

My heart hurt too much.

Stranger's POV

I couldn't breathe.

I just kept walking, cursing every step I took away from her.

I reached the woods and crumbled, falling to my knees as my wolf tried to break through. I tried to push him back down but I didn't have the strength to fight him, so I retreated and let my wolf come forward.

I had finally found her and now I had given her up.

As he shifted, he growled at the pain in my chest, turning to look at the village we had just came from. The village that held our mate. He started towards the witches house before I could stop him, still not having the strength. As he walked down the pathway towards the witches house I saw Kora standing there, right where I left her. Not moving, not speaking.

Damon stood in front of her trying to get her to talk to him, but she remained statue. My howl rang clear through the air as my wolf called to hers, making her eyes snap to me. Damon turned to look at me beginning to growl.

I slowly walked towards her, my wolf needing her now but Damon stepped in between us, blocking my view of her. People were starting to come out of their homes to see what was going on but I paid no attention to them. Damon was my target, my wolf seeing him as a threat between my mate and I.

"Stay away from my sister, mutt." His alpha tone rang clear through the air as even some of the witches stepped back, feeling the need to submit to his powerful tone but I didn't. In fact, my pace quickened a bit, growing impatient. My wolf needed his mate, even if I was trying to protect her by staying away.

"Careful pup.." Damon warned me one last time but I only stopped and stepped forward, challenging him. Being an alpha, he would never refuse a challenge. It was against his blood, his instincts, but I had a few tricks up my sleeve too.

Damon snarled and shifted into his very large black alpha wolf, making Kora look between us in disbelief. Damon's wolf charged me, making me do the same as we collided, jaws snapping and dangerous claws swinging at each other, looking for a solid purchase to sink into.

Kora yelled at Damon to stop, then at me, but neither of us listened. She began to run towards us, but Damon sent her a frightening snarl, ordering her to stop, which she had to obey. Just that thought made my wolf even more infuriated. How dare he order around my mate!

My wolf had had enough of this arrogant alpha, so I used my own power against him.

A power I hadn't used in almost 10 years.

Alpha.

All I could think was alpha.
