I'm gonna take on the world

First day of school

 It was the night before, it's happened so many times. Where are we going? I'd asked. Camping, my parents had told me. We're almost there, my dad had told me. What if something bad happens to you, or to us? I'd asked. Nothing bad is going to happen sweetheart. My mom told me. I wish that had been true. Many hours later. Farrah hide quickly, my parents told me. Stay here stay quiet and don't come out until we come and find you. My father told me. What about you? I cried. Don't worry about us, my mom told me. But always remember that we love you. No matter what happens we love you. My parents had told me. Don't go! I cried. We'll be ok sweetie my dad said, as they hugged and kissed me.

The bear came and I hid and remained silent like I was told, until it killed them, and I'd screamed. Mommy, daddy! Tears filled my eyes. Then I heard a shot gun, and saw the bear fall to the floor. Whose there? I heard a man say. You're ok little girl I'll protect you. I came out where I'd been hiding. What's your name? He asked me. Farrah Jade. How old are you? 5 sir. Hi Farrah, he said getting down at my level, my name is Shawn Hunter.

What are you doing out here all by yourself? I wasn't I was with my parents. Was? They got killed by the bear you just shot. I cried, and I cried. Well, I'm thinking I'm gonna take you to the hospital, I'll see what they can do for you just to make sure you're not in shock or physically injured, and while you're there there's a police station not to far from there I'm gonna go report the crime and see if you have any other family that you can stay with. Ok? Yes sir. Call me Shawn. Ok Shawn.

Here put this on. What's that? I kind of drive a motorcycle. You must be freezing in this cold weather. Wear this. He'd said putting his riding jacket on my shoulders, as I slid my arms through the sleeves. Now hold onto me tightly. Don't let go ok? Yes, I nod my head. He took me to the hospital, and they took me in. Is she yours? No ma'am no relation. Where are the girl's parents? If all else fails that might be me.

The Doctor looked at Shawn confused. He told them the story. He told them what he had planned to do, and would be right back. It turned out that I had no other known or alive family, and after going to the police, he went to the courthouse for the legal papers. He was going to adopt me. He would be legally responsible for me. He told me the news, but that he didn't want to be called dad. That he just wanted to be called Shawn. We agreed that was best. Shawn took me in and took care of me, but he more or less let me do whatever I wanted, and he had started home schooling me. Everything was perfect now.

Which brings us to now, to the present, Shawn had never really been a parent before me, and he still wasn't much of a parent now and that was 7 years ago, I'm 12 now. I'm at that middle school age. He's more like a friend, or an uncle, he doesn't really act like a dad he doesn't really know how to even after the time he spent taking care of me. He had also not wanted me to take his last name so he told me to tell people if it was asked that my last name was Jack. Farrah Jade Jack.

I asked why he said if I used my biological last name it would look suspicious since my family doesn't really exist anymore that he picked Jack after his brother. That he wanted to use a name that meant something to him, instead of Hunter cause that would be suspicious too, that people would ask where he had been, and he wasn't ready to have that convo with his friends yet at least not at the time. Shawn came into my room when he heard me scream. He saw the tears in my eyes and gently shook me awake.

I'd woken up and hugged him, he asked if it was that same dream again. I'd said yes. Would you like me to sit and wait for you to fall back to sleep you do start real school in the morning you know? No, that's ok Shawn, sorry for waking you up. It's ok Farrah. Go back to sleep now. Yes uncle Shawn. I'd turned back over and went back to sleep. In the morning he woke me up again. Time to get up, I'll make you some breakfast and then you gotta head out, I'll be waiting. Do you want me to take you, or are you gonna take the subway?

He left my room, and I closed my door to get dressed (outfit 34) If there was two things I always wore no matter what, it was my (locket) that had a picture of my biological family in it, and the biker jacket Shawn gave me. I came down to the kitchen where Shawn had made me breakfast. So? I think I'm gonna take the subway today. Alright have fun at school. Bye Shawn I waved out the door.
