Telling lies is bad for the foundation of friendships

We were having our school play, it was Romeo and Juliet, and Riley was Juliet and Lucas was Romeo but when Lucas went to kiss Riley Farkle jumped in and told him not to make a move on his woman. Everyone was very confused.

Farkle who wasn't supposed to have lines and didn't want Lucas to kiss Riley involved the audience and Maya and I were wooing and encouraging him. You come up here and get kissed too, both of you.

Maya and I were encouraged through the audience to go up there as Riley scooted over and she was in the middle. We laid down next to her. I don't understand how we end up in situations like this. Riley turns to us.

When we got done with the performance the only person who didn't get applauded. When Maya wanted to tell Farkle that he wasn't good but Riley didn't want her to do that because he believes that he is and didn't want her to crush him.

So, you'd rather lie to him? I questioned. I mean I don't think he was bad, but it wasn't the way the play was supposed to go, but then again neither were we, we were people in the audience. That's not how R&J goes. I'm trying to be supportive.

So, you don't want to tell him the truth? Maya asks her. No, I just don't want him to be crushed. You're afraid to tell him the truth! No, I just don't wanna hurt him or be mean. Riley tells her. So, you think I'm mean? Maya asks her.

I smirk at hearing this. No, I'm afraid to say that. Riley tells her. I roll my eyes. What about you Farrah? What do you think? About what? About you being mean?

Yes. Well, I'm honestly not sure I know you enough to call you mean, its just not the word I'd use to call you. I mean respectfully I think you're intimidating, but I think in reality you just want what's best for your friend whether it hurts them or not.

Both: Whoa! Riley and Maya say in awe of me. But then Farkle wants to hear how he did and Riley tries to pick her words carefully so that she doesn't hurt him. And then Maya rips the bandage right off, telling him he killed the play.

What does she mean? She means you killed it. Riley tells him as I cross my arms lifting an eyebrow. Farkle admits that he thought he killed the play and ruined it, that had we told him that he would've believed us but he'd be crushed.

And in order to not hurt him she continued to lie to him and tell him how good he was, and Farkle believed it. He thought he could be better than good that he would be great and that he could be the greatest actor ever known.

Then he walked away. Listen Ri, I'm all for not hurting our friends cause it never feels good to hurt our friends, but we shouldn't lie to them either. Except, I'm not a good example of not lying to my friends, because I'm not being honest about who I am.

Maya was worried that by telling Farkle he was good that she would break him, she said she wouldn't do that and thought it would all go away. But then Farkle started tap dancing down the hall. Both: You broke him. Maya and I said to her.

In the morning that followed (outfit 22) Maya shows up to Cory's class with a new locket around her neck, and Cory was teaching us about history and telling the truth and Riley wanted to know where Maya got the locket and if it was real gold. But to Maya it didn't matter all that mattered to her was that she had it.

Cory was saying something about people suffering from people telling the truth which made Riley wonder if it was sometimes ok to lie. I had no right to have an opinion even though I knew it was wrong I was doing it too.

But Lucas asked if there were consequences for doing that too for not telling the truth. And Cory said that no matter what the truth always finds away to come out. Isn't that right Ms. Jack? He turned to me as I sank further in my seat.

Even though they all said they would respect our privacy when Shawn didn't want them to know it was him that was taking care of me they still knew I was lying, as I frowned up at him. A part of me felt guilty but I think I'd feel more guilty if I did the one thing Shawn asked me not to do.

After class ended Riley asked Maya again where she got the locket. Maya teased and said France, but Riley and I knew she didn't go there or she would've brought something back for us. Then she said her dad sent it to her. Riley questioned it at first, but because Maya said that's what happened she believed it, but I knew better.

Then we're done here? Yep I just have one question. Where did you get the locket Maya she asked again. You don't think my father really sent it to me? Are you calling me a liar? Why won't you just tell me the truth?

Oh, you think that's important? Yes I do. Do you think Farkle was good in the play? I cut Maya off as Farkle walks by. But she doesn't respond. But at her house that night at dinner Riley asks her dad if it was ever ok to tell a little white lie to spare someone's feelings, but Cory said no it was always good to tell the truth.

But then Topanga put his dinner in front of him. Told him it was chicken, when Cory said there was no way their dinner could've ever been chicken Topanga was looking forward to hearing what he'd have to say about how it was after.

Oh mighty teller of the truth, how will you get out of this one? Riley asked her dad. Before he went to eat his "chicken" he wanted to pray with everyone first. As he stalled to eat his dinner.

When he ate the chicken and Topanga asked how it was, he said.... Well I'll tell you one thing about this chicken, it died by the eating the other chicken. Then Auggie told him that sometimes she feeds him his food when he doesn't want to eat something and makes airplane noise and that he likes that. And then Topanga used that tactic to try and get Cory to eat his own dinner.

Later shortly Maya crawls into the window with me right behind her. She starts talking about pigeons and squirrels but Riley wants to know where she got the locket. Maya keeps trying to tell her that her dad sent it to her, but Riley reminds her that she's cried to Riley about how her dad never sends her stuff.

That the necklace is made of good and looks expensive and curiosity gets the better of me, I need to know if you're stealing things. She said it sat in a store in the lost and found for months and no one has claimed it that it sat there like an orphan and she took it that it was hers now.

Please don't use that word? I shake my head getting tears in my eyes. By legal definition that's what I am, because my own parents are dead. Awe Buttercup, I'm sorry Riley hugs me. Farrah how would you feel if you lost your locket? Maya asks me.

I'd feel broken and lost. My caretaker is all I have to take care of me. And if you'd lost your locket? I'd notice it was missing right away and go looking for it, I could never live without it. Exactly if it had been lost you wouldn't let it sit in a lost and found for months without finding it.

But Maya that locket belongs to someone and you should give it back. Riley says with her arms kept being wrapped around me. How come you can't tell Farkle the truth but you have no problem telling me?! Maya asks.

My father tells my mother truth even though he knows she's gonna shove a chicken in his face. I'm sorry I missed it. Maya says. It made me think of you. She tells her. Then things get worse when she tells Maya she doesn't want her to end up in jail because she loves her but then Riley says she thinks Maya's a thief and Maya takes offense.

Riley thought that's what Maya wanted for her to tell people the truth. But then Maya crawls back out the window. Riley thought Maya would praise her for telling the truth, just like she wanted, but Maya was upset with her.

I'll see you tomorrow Riley. I tell her, as I go on my way back home. But while climbing down the ladder, my necklace gets caught on some part of the landing and breaks off my neck but I don't feel it come off, and I go home.

And in the morning (outfit 41) I went to meet up with Riley before school and didn't Maya, I'm guessing because she's upset with her. And when we got to school she told Maya whether or not she's a thief or not or whether she stole it or not it didn't belong to her. That the universe was upset with her that she needed to give it back.
