You were walking next to Paul, wondering at the vision of the garden surrounding you. Picking up the front of your dress so you could walk faster to keep in step with his longer strides. He took a hold of your left hand as you walked.
"I sense you didn't just come out here to join me out in the gardens,"
"I wish that was the reason. Yes, I needed a break from the meetings and I knew that Eric was going to take you until he had to step away because of–"
"I know. Apparently I smell really good to everyone here and everything," you interrupted with a slight laugh and a roll of your eyes.
"Well, about that. We are going to have to figure out a way to hide or mask your scent,"
"Why? Am I becoming a problem? My scent–"
"No, it's not that. I came out to walk around the gardens with you.. But also to talk to you. Something came up during my meetings with advisors. And there are people coming tonight here,"
"Tonight, here. And when you say people you mean other demons?" you questioned uneasily, since you had only been around Eric, Maria and Paul for the last couple of days. Despite the fact that you knew that there were more people than that working in the palace.
"I know it's a lot. It is for me too. That's why I wanted to tell you as soon as I found out,"
"For advisors they don't seem like they are really doing their job all that great, you know since they should be letting you know about this stuff in advance,"
"Well, it just came up, I haven't been back that long, and you haven't been here that long here. It's more so as a way for them to celebrate my return and for your arrival here," He said with a smile as he leaned in and kissed you softly before pulling away, stopping your racing thoughts momentarily.
"So how are we supposed to go about masking my scent?" you questioned, knowing that once you got that sorted your anxiety over the event would lessen. Since you would be the only human in a room full of demons thinking you were their next meal, unless you masked your scent to not be so alluring. Or so Paul had been telling you over and over again.
"That's where I'm taking you actually. It's this way," he said as he turned you both towards the right through a set of double doors as a cloud of smoke came out from them, making you cough as you inhaled it.
Paul stepped in front of you waving the smoke away from around you. Proceeding to walk in before you.
"Can you cut that out?! I don't even know what you are making but–"
"No, no it's fine–"
"No it's not your pregnant y/n–"
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't think I would be graced with your presence this day, your majesty. Let alone meet the Lady y/n that I've heard such great things about. Hold on," a man's voice said through the smoke as you fanned your hands around yourself until there was a click and the smoke was sucked up a pipe that led up which you guessed was out over the palace.
You blinked a couple times to get used to the darkness of the room and saw a workbench that you were standing in front of. Then a gigantic pot in the corner of the room and viles and viles of things that were up on shelves.. And a short man wiping his hands on his apron and then adjusting his glasses on his face.
"You couldn't have predicted when we would've come even if this had been a planned visit unless you are psychic?" Paul questioned with a laugh as the man shook his head at Paul.
"I'm many things, psychic is not one of them your majesty. But what are you here for? I'm assuming it's not to just drop by?" the man questioned.
"Yes, there's to be a gathering this evening. And since y/n is the only human in attendance I was hoping that you had something that could mask her scent for the evening," Paul said as the shorter man immediately spun around to his shelves and shelves of vials looking at them.
"I might be able to create something if I don't have something prepared already. Should take me a few minutes," he said as you watched him go through his shelves as Paul was looking around the room, eyeing certain bottles and opening them and sniffing them.
"Don't sniff that stuff you don't know what it'll do," you said as you stared at Paul worried as he smiled at your concern.
"That's nice of you to worry. Nothing he has will affect me. You are the one that needs to be careful dear," he said in an endearing tone that made your heart skip a beat, especially at the dear.
"Ah, I have just the thing, hold on!" the man said behind you as you both turned around and saw him throwing dried herb after dried herb into a smaller pot as puffs of smoke burst from it. He mixed the concoction together. Then ladeled the liquid into a container and handed it to you.
"Dab it on your neck as needed and your scent will be masked for however long that you need it," he said as you took the bottle from him
"Thank you, this is going to help so much,"
"If you ever need anything else, you know that my door is always open," he said as you and Paul walked out of the room.. Feeling Paul wrap his arm around your waist.
"Now that we have that, let's go try and figure out a dress for you," he said as you both walked back into the palace. You feel more relieved at having the scent masker but also still anxious at what the rest of the evening would unfold for you.
