When entering the town, you didn't know what to expect. But you were not expecting a bustling town life with businesses and farms off nearby. Eric and Maria stopped and Eric tied up the horses to posts before Eric came back to the side to help you off the horse, his hands on at your waist until your feet touched the ground. And then he helped Maria in the same way.
"What part looks promising?"
"I have no idea. You both have been here before. So why don't you pick which way?" you replied, your thoughts going to the books you had read about international travel and pickpocketing coming to mind, despite the fact that this certainly wasn't like traveling to Europe.
"How about we go this way, more shops," Maria said as she looped her arm in yours as you walked next to her going to the right where there seemed to be a public market with produce and other wares being sold.
"Of course we would go this direction," Eric said from behind the two of you.
"Yes, well the other direction is just bars, how about you go to one and meet us back here in a bit?" Maria asked sarcastically as she looked back behind her shoulder with a smirk on her face.
"You know that I wouldn't do that. It's my job to watch after her, not yours. And if he found out I wasn't, I wouldn't be his second in command anymore and would be put in one of the hidden chambers never to be heard from again," Eric said, with what sounded like a bit of truth. Which brought back a reminder of the extent of who you were now attached to. While Paul seemed kind and sympathetic. There was a darker side to him, one that from what Eric was alluding to like to torture other demons.
Which didn't surprise you. He was probably very different then before he met you and when he had ruled centuries before he even became trapped in your rental house as a demonic spirit.
"Come with me, don't listen to him ramble on," Maria said simply as she walked with you towards one of the booths that was filled with an array of different food items.
You approached the booth, getting a smell of some of the spices that were out and saw the booth attendant's eyes were on you making you stiff next to Maria.
"You sure they can't smell me?" you asked as you pulled your cloak hood up more.
"I'm right next to you and I can only get a hint of your scent. As long as you stay downwind of anyone you'll be fine. Plus who's to say that someone doesn't assume it's me anyway?" Maria questioned in a playful tone as she moved with you along to another booth. This one full of fabrics yards and yards of them up on display.
You moved into the booth that was open and walked around the fabrics with Maria at your side the entire time as Eric stayed outside the booth, his eyes always seeming to move around watching everything around.
You touched a particular fabric, your hand coming into contact with the softest velvet material that you had ever seen.
"Ah, that is one of the popular ones," a voice said, making you jump as a man came up from behind one of the fabrics and stood next to the fabric that you had touched.
"It's beautiful. How-" you started to say, as Maria leaned down.
"Can't take a lot of that back. We would have to tell him where to send it. And while I don't catch any ill-will from him at all. You just never know," Maria said, making your heart sink.
You wanted some of the fabric to maybe have for a dress. While you still had the preference of pants, you knew that you would wear them now few and far between days and most likely dresses with your new status. And this would be something that you could have. Maybe even try and make something from it yourself so you could have something to do that was just for you.
