You were walking around the grounds after talking to Paul about the coronation. In the moment seeing him so calm about it helped you feel relaxed about it. But just in the moment. There were so many factors that made you extremely nervous about going in public. And as you thought about them more you started feeling your chest flutter and you started wringing your hands."Hey, I was told to come and check in on you," a voice said from behind you, making you jump when you turned around and putting your hand to your chest to stop your heart from racing so fast.
"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you like that. I was attending meetings and he said that I should keep you company," Eric said nervously as you narrowed your eyes at him.
"Well maybe you shouldn't surprise me like that. I didn't even hear you walk up behind me,"
"That's because I didn't. But I'll make a note of that for later, maybe strap a bell to one of my shoes so you can hear me coming?" he said as you heard the sarcasm dripping from his voice at the suggestion.
"Maybe you should actually. I mean technically aren't you supposed to do anything I say?" you questioned as you saw his smile fall at that.
"Technically, but you aren't queen but-"
"But I will be so shouldn't you still listen to me?" you questioned back playfully as you turned away from him and continued walking through the flowers.
"I mean if you are serious I will make a noise or something. Since I don't want to startle you since, well, you are carrying the heir," he said as he walked alongside of you.
"That is a good point, didn't even think about that. But regardless I wouldn't think you would want to startle me. You never know I could've hit you or something as a reflex,"
"As if that's really going to hurt me," he countered as you smirked and spun around slapping him on the face watching his face turn to the side with a hint of satisfaction that you otherwise would not have felt before you time with Paul. Which just meant that his antics were rubbing off on you. Or that it could be the blood you had been drinking from him lately that could be making you act differently. You kept that thought in your head for later to ask Paul in the evening when you were sitting down for dinner.
"Ok, correction, that did kind of sting. Didn't know you had it in you," Eric said, putting his hand over the part of his face that you had slapped.
"Sorry, you said I didn't have me. And I felt like I had to prove it to you. I really think Paul is rubbing off on me. I wouldn't have done that before all this," you said honestly.
"Maybe that's what it is. But regardless now I will have my guard up before taking you by surprise like I did earlier," he said with a laugh as you watched before your eyes the red mark that you left on his cheek fade instantly.
"But I would like to know what's gotten you all in your head?"
"Really? It isn't obvious? Still new here. Human amongst demons here, that is pregnant with the devil's lovechild." you stopped as you instinctively put your hand on your stomach that has yet to show yet. You sighed and continued, " And I'm worried about the coronation. I haven't been out of this place and I just know that there is going to be issues with this,"
"All good points, valid points. But I can tell you aren't that worried about the pregnancy," he said with a smile.
"Well, trust me when I found out, it wasn't exactly planned or anything. I'm still trying to deal with it. But seeing how everyone is here, despite being the only human around. I still feel safe. Which is quite jarring considering my exposure to demons before coming here,"
"Oh we all know about that. Gene was a power-hungry asshole, and I say good riddance. Because what he did to you was messed up. And what he did to Paul for over a century was really fucked up. Just funny how he didn't come back down here and rule like I think he planned on doing with that witch of his as his queen," Eric spouted out quickly as you noticed towards the end that his eyes flashed from their normal blue color to black before sighing in an attempt to calm his nerves.
"Sorry to get all worked up. I just never liked Gene. He was always trying to find a way to gain more power. When he should've just stayed in his place. But no, never could. Even being his second-in-command before I took over as that,"
You stopped walking and looked at him and still saw the anger in his face.
"When did that happen?"
"When Paul left suddenly we didn't know what happened at first. And everyone voted unanimously for me to take the position, and I've basically held down the fort since then,"
You put your hand on his shoulder, and then pulled him in for a hug as he stiffened against you.
"I can't imagine how hard that has to be. I'm sure Paul appreciates you doing that,"
"Yes, and to show that he lets me off from those horrendous meetings today by hanging out with you instead. Anything you want to do specifically?" he asked as he pulled away from your embrace wiggling his eyebrows at you as he smiled mischievously.
"Anything?"
"Yeah, anything. Those were his words. Now what exactly do you want to do?" he asked as you bit your lip nervously at the first thought that came to mind.
"Explore outside of this palace. I want to see where we would be going for the coronation. Mingle amongst the people. Maybe if that isn't too much," you said as you watched Eric stare off into the distance just for a second before looping his arm with yours.
"I don't know. But we can sure as hell try. Especially before he finds out. Because the walls have ears around here," he said, making you laugh as he led you back into the palace as you felt the nerves start up in your stomach making you question if this was the best idea when Paul wasn't aware of what the two of you were planning on doing.
